Chapter XXVI

The sound of the crash drew attention. The other part of the group immediately came running and abandoned their posts as the impact was so loud it had echoed throughout the castle halls. It seemed as if the Organization members they were fighting had retreated, ultimately coming to the decision not to pursue the intruders. By the time the group was back together again Xigbar had fully descended from above and promptly placed himself to sit on top of what was left of the cage. He straightened his back as if allowing his superiority complex to get the better of him as he eyed every single person confronting him. His challenge was silent but obvious. The room fell quiet, every man who came running forming a protective shield around Brexme. She stood on the tips of her toes just to get a good look.

"So what? Y'all just gonna stand there or will one of you attack?" Xigbar scoffed.

Roxas leaned ever so slightly towards Sora as he stood next to him. "Or we could create a corridor and leave." He suggested quietly.

Brexme bit her bottom lip. She didn't exactly understand what was going on. She woke up in a strange place, was approached by strangers, kidnapped, and now being rescued and protected by more strangers. Her experience with the Organization wasn't pleasant. She knew Xemnas was lying and manipulating her and was thankful to leave. He told her she didn't have emotions and yet she saw the boys and felt overwhelmed. They were familiar. The more time she spent being in the center of them the more emotion she felt. It was an overwhelming sense of obligation to protect them; to keep them safe.

Xigbar shot Roxas a disgusted face, his nose bunching up. "What're you muttering about? Scheming something?"

Vanitas rolled his eyes. "Whatever we planned is officially down the drain. Let's just kill you so we can go home." He quickly summoned his Keyblade, standing casually with his other hand in his pocket.

"Stop instigating." Riku scolded and pushed the Keyblade down.

Xigbar dramatically tilted his head back, covering his mouth with a hand and yawned loudly. "I'm bored. I'm ready to end this."

Brexme felt a paralyzing fear when Xigbar lifted an arm and his gun appeared. The tip was aimed right for Sora as he was front and center of the circle. She knew deep down he was capable of handling himself. Despite that thought she felt compelled to rush forward and shove past the men, revealing her own weapon she never knew she had. However she wielded it as if she always knew, clasping it in the palm of her hand and gracefully lifting it into a defensive block. She timed it so perfectly when she felt a quick vibration from the blade, noticing Xigbar had fired a shot.

Sora reached forward and grabbed her shoulder, pulling her back to her original spot as he stood in her place. His Keyblade was very quickly in his hand as he stood with his head held high. His normal demeanor vanished and was replaced with a personality unknown to him; somber and grim.

Xigbar found the whole scene amusing. He had smirked and tilted his head to the side, kicking his legs off the edge of the cage with glee. "Ooo how exciting! Protecting a girl who doesn't even know you! Look at her would you? She's chaos. Destruction. You touch her and you die."

"She's not the monster you're making her out to be." Ventus protested, slicing the air with an angry fist.

"And you're not treating her like the human you're making her out to be." Xigbar snarled back. He pushed himself to stand and rested his gun on his shoulder. "To get your beloved Ember back you have to do two things, and I know you're close to doing one of them."

His voice was taunting, a smug tone in his voice as he called the group out for their plans. For some, only guilt rose as they turned away. For others, rage build up inside at the accusations. Brexme felt the tension in the air as if someone poisoned it. The words being spat back and forth didn't make sense but it also didn't seem to bother her. All she wanted was her memories back so she could understand this whole mess.
