Sora
Brexme grabbed onto Sora's hand and her grip tightened. He seemed taken back by her actions as if he almost withdrew from her. As the two gazes linked together his tension relaxed and his eyes softened. He stepped closer to her and used his other hand to cup her cheek.
"I'm sorry, Brexme." He was forcing that smile to stay on his lips and yet his eyes were swelling with tears.
Brexme shook her head. "Please, continue. This is what I wish for."
Sora's breath shuddered as he released her and summoned his Keyblade. "When I come back I'll have Ember's heart. And then..." He looked away as he couldn't bear to finish the sentence.
"I will worry about the next part." Brexme reassured him. "Now go."
Sora quickly lifted his Keyblade to prepare for the dive. The longer he stayed in the current realm the more guilt he felt for going along with the plan. With a lump in his throat he lifted his Keyblade pointing straight up in the air and used it's powers to send himself to the heart.
A split second passed and he found himself falling. Darkness surrounded him every which way to the point he wasn't sure if he was falling down or up. He shook his head and forced himself to regain his composure and focus on the task. He allowed a few seconds until he was able to see a small light in the darkness. The light grew more and more prominent the more time he spent falling and upon further inspection he began to make out the detailed features.
"Her... Heart..." He whispered as he saw the platform.
Sora finally understood why Xemnas was so interested in her. From his position he knew Ember's heart was pure, but trauma had caused cracks to preside all over it. Darkness oozed from the cracks like blood and it was dripping off the sides of the platform. Sora frowned at the sight as everything finally clicked.
That's why Brexme said her original had no will to live.
In the middle of the shattered platform was Ember, trapped in what seemed like a bubble holding her up. She limply laid in the middle with her back facing the floor and arched uncomfortably as if she was falling but never moving. Sora quickly aimed nearby and allowed gravity to settle him on his feet. He dashed to her, stopping just a few inches away and stared in dismay. Each movement he took caused the glass to stick to his feet, the sound of crunching glass being smothered by his body weight.
He delicately reached out to grab her but that bubble was strong, zapping his fingertips. Sora winced but didn't withdraw his hand. Instead, he widened his stance and forced both arms forward and struck the shield. The voltage that coursed through his body was intense, and Sora gritted his teeth and simply dealt with it. He yelled loudly and once he got a grip on Ember he dragged her out of the tiny prison and into his arms.
Sora fell backwards as the shield dissipated and he was left with Ember's limp body. He ensured to protect her even after he fell and allowed her to lay limp on his lap. Sora groaned and gripped her tightly, forcing himself to his feet with her in his arms. Ember was still sound asleep despite all the action and her head rested on his shoulder.
Sora could only snort with amusement as he looked down at her. "Not even a flinch?" His voice was tender and his expression softened as the pain subsided.
The more he stared at her the more his heart ached for her. Sora knew deep down he had fallen in love with her. However he couldn't reveal that to her, not for a while. It pained him to see her curled up in his arms as he stepped all over her broken heart as it had shattered beneath his feet each step he took.
"I'll repair it for you, one day." Sora tenderly kissed the top of her forehead. "But we need to go."
And with Ember in his arms he walked over to the edge of the platform with his back facing the darkness. In one motion Sora fell backwards to plunge into the darkness. He ensured to summon his Keyblade while clutching his love with the other hand and pointed it to the sky as light emerged from the tip.
