Chapter 4: Meeting the girls

Jonas said that my signing took longer than expected so now training is just finishing but he still wants me to meet the girls before everyone heads off home. He's leading me through the long hallways and out onto the training grounds. I follow him, a few steps behind. I freeze slightly, noticing the whole team together, my heart beat increasing in my chest. Its almost as if my pulse is trying to escape from my neck but then Katie, Mccabe, one of closest friends, noticing me and walks over with a wide smile.

She walks over to me quickly but her smile falters slightly when she picks up on my subtle body language. She knows I'm on the verge of a panic attack. She walks towards me slightly slower and pulls me into a gentle hug, whispering in my ear "it's alright Els, just focus on my voice okay?"

I nod and nestle my head into the crook of her neck, breathing in her comforting scent, trying to calm my breathing and she whispers once again "its okay Els, you're okay just try to match my breathing."

After a few more seconds my breathing slows and I relax into her hold. I pull her closer, smiling softly and speaking softly "I've missed you Katie."

"I've missed you too, my favourite Welshie" she laughs softly before pulling away from the hug.

Once I'm out of Katie's hold I notice Jen Beattie, my other friend. I smile widely, running over to her and tackling her in a hug. I laugh loudly as she stumbles slightly, and holds me tightly.

"You almost knocked me over!" She shouts, laughing loudly.

"You know you missed me Jen, don't lie to me"

"Yeah you're right, you cocky shit," she laughs and pulls out of the hug and I place my arm over her shoulders, "right, Els these are the girls they can introduce themselves because I'm too lazy and can't be arsed. Girls this is Ellie Jones our new signing, she's a goalkeeper."

I wave at them all then run my fingers through my hair. They all begin to introduce themselves until there's only one person left.

My breath hitches as I look at her. She's got blonde hair up in a ponytail, blue eyes, a fairly sharp jawline. My eyes drift as I look her up and down before I come to my senses, snapping out of it as the stunning girl introduces herself.

"Hi, I'm Leah Williamson" I nod in response and Jonas calls that everyone can head home.

Jen and Katie stand by my side as we talk to each other, catching up. After a minute or two, Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema, and the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen, Leah Williamson, approach me. The first one to speak is Beth and she has to tilt her head up slightly to look at me and the first thing she blurts out being "you are so fucking tall oh my god, I look like a minion in comparison."

That makes the small group laugh collectively as I look down at her with a soft smile as my voice comes out fairly deep with a slight rasp, as per usual "yeah I get a lot. I am just over 6 foot to be fair."

I notice Vivianne laugh softly but she looks down at the ground. I can tell she's a bit shy but she'll probably open up a little more as she gets to know me. Normally, I'd be analysing her body language, trying to gauge an idea of her personality but I'm distracted by a certain Leah Williamson looking at me as if she's taking note of everything about me. Knowing her gaze is upon me makes me slightly nervous so I cross my toned and tattooed arms. I can feel her looking at my arms as they flex slightly as if she's memorising each tattoo on my skin.

I manage to focus on the conversation once again at the same time as Leah does, catching the end of Beth's sentence as she smiles widely "so it's set, we'll meet at my house for a small welcoming party for Ellie say around 6?" Everyone nods in response and we walk out of the grounds together, making small talk as I shoot off a short text to Ffion apologising for taking a few minutes longer than the time I told her to come get me and that I was on my way back out.
