"It's been three weeks!"
"Yes, and I'm sorry about that but-"
"But what? You're the one that put him on that helicopter. Since when do nurses even go on transports?"
"Yes, but please listen sir. It was a special situation."
It was so loud. The yelling. The beeping, too. It was all just too much. He wanted it to stop.
"Suga? Hey, are you awake?"
It was difficult, but eventually Suga managed to open his eyes to see Daichi and... One of the doctors he works with?
His chest felt so tight, like he couldn't breathe at all. And he had never felt any pain like this before-
"Hey, hey, you're okay," Daichi whispered.
Suga calmed down a bit when Daichi put his hands around his face, but not enough to stop crying. Daichi didn't seem to mind though, he just kept wiping Suga's tears away.
"You were in an accident. But you're okay now- everyone's taking really good care of you."
Suga tried to ask what happened, but no words came out.
"Don't strain yourself too hard." The doctor- Suga recognized the pediatric attending now- came closer. "I'll send a nurse to give you some pain medication in a bit. I'll come back later, but I'll leave you alone with your boyfriend for now."
All Suga could do was give him half of a nod as he left. He glanced at his boyfriend with teary eyes.
Daichi grabbed his hand and sighed. "Do you remember going on a transport?"
This time Suga managed a full nod.
"Okay, that's good. Um, Suga, the helicopter crashed. No one knows why. And you were hurt really bad."
Suga followed Daichi's gaze to the lower half of his body.
"Your pelvis is broken- they put pins in to help-and there was damage to your hips and spine. Your left knee was dislocated. Both of your arms are bruised pretty bad but other than that they're fine. And you have a bad concussion."
It made sense why Suga woke up to Daichi yelling now. He couldn't help it when he started crying again. In an instant Daichi was there wiping his tears again.
"Oh my love. It will be okay, I promise."
They sat in silence until Suga was nearly asleep again when a nurse came in. He opened his eyes sleepily to see the nurse is one of his friends. Suga smiled when he recognized Chiaki.
Chiaki smiled sadly as she adjusted the various medicine doses. "Oh dear. What am I going to do without you as my gossip buddy during work?"
Suga shrugged, and Daichi and Chiaki both laughed.
"Would you like to try to eat or drink anything?"
Suga shook his head and sighed.
"Alright, maybe we can try tomorrow. It is getting pretty late." Chiaki waved Daichi over to talk to her in private. Suga couldn't tell what they were saying, but his boyfriend definitely looked worried.
When they finished Chiaki said goodbye and Daichi sat back down next to him.
"You look exhausted. Wanna go back to sleep?"
Suga was so tired he could barely nod.
"I'll take that as a yes." Daichi fixed Suga's blankets, careful not to touch him. "I'll be right here when you wake up, okay?"
As tired as he was, Suga was still awake an hour later, after Daichi had fallen asleep. He hurt too much to get comfortable, and he couldn't lay on his side, his favorite way to sleep.
It wasn't until nearly one in the morning when he fell asleep, still holding Daichi's hand.
