Suga smiled when Daichi entered the room, his arms full of freshly washed blankets.
"Oh, you're awake! Good morning my love."
"H... Hi." Suga had been awake for a little over a week, and this was the first time he was able to talk.
His boyfriend grinned and sat the blankets on the bed. "You spoke!"
"Mhm."
"You're making progress a lot faster than the doctors said you would. I'm proud of you."
Suga adjusted himself ever so slightly. He could talk now, and his headaches weren't as constant. His back and hips on the other hand...
He winced and looked at Daichi, who helped him sit up the rest of the way.
"How bad does it hurt?"
"... Worse."
Daichi sighed. "Damn it. Do you need more medicine?"
Suga shook his head.
"Alright. Do you want to try to eat something today?"
This time Suga nodded, although he was hesitant. It felt ridiculous that at twenty two year old would be afraid to eat, but even the thought of it made him want to cry.
"Don't worry," Daichi muttered. He kissed Suga's cheek. "We can start small. I can even see if Chiaki can have someone make your favorite soup."
Suga watched as Daichi left the room. He pulled the blankets Daichi left around himself. It isn't uncommon for him to be cold, but it gets especially bad when he's nervous.
It took awhile, but eventually Daichi came back with a bowl of soup and some water.
"Alright, take your time. And if you need to stop you can."
"Okay."
Suga appreciated it when Daichi scrolled through his phone instead of watching him eat. He made it through half of the bowl before feeling like he was going to be sick. He put a hand over his mouth and shut his eyes tight.
Daichi looked up at him and frowned. "Are you okay?"
He shook his head.
"Alright. Just breathe, Suga." Daichi went around to the back of the bed to rub Suga's back. "The feeling will go away soon."
It took a minute for Suga to calm down enough to move his hand.
"There you go." Daichi smiled reassuringly and hit the button to call for Chiaki. "You're gonna get a quick checkup and then we can watch a movie, how does that sound?"
That cheered Suga up a bit. He managed a smile and waved to his nurse when she came in.
Chiaki smiled sweetly while she took the bowl from Suga's lap. "Looks like you did pretty good!" She came back to check on him and frowned almost immediately. "Suga, you have a horrible fever."
Daichi felt Suga's forehead and gasped. "He was a normal temperature just fifteen minutes ago."
"I'm afraid these things can happen quickly. Hopefully it's nothing too bad, but I'll keep an extra close eye on him just to make sure."
Chiaki turned to Suga and smiled. "Make sure you're not too hard on yourself, okay? You know as well as I do that healing can be a long and bumpy road."
Suga listened as Chiaki gave Daichi a few instructions, and she helped him lay back down before leaving.
He sighed as Daichi tightened the blankets around him and fixed the pillows. He was so grateful for him.
"I'm sorry if I pushed you too hard."
Suga rolled his eyes and pat the bed.
Daichi smiled softly. "It'll hurt you if I sit next to you."
Frustrated, Suga pulled out his phone and started typing. Right leg doesn't hurt below knee. Sit down there.
"Alright," Daichi laughed. He sat where Suga told him to and studied him. "How about we do the movie later? You should sleep now."
As much as he didn't want to sleep, Suga knew he should.
This time he fell asleep quickly.
