A week quickly came and went and the group began to once again settle into their new lives at the prison. Of course, everyone was slightly tense and on edge. With what had happened to Hershel and their quick exit from their last living situation, everyone was well aware that although it was nice - it could be temporary.
Everyone seemed to wake around the same time, being that the living quarters were practically all together - once one person was up, it didn't take too long for everyone else to follow suit.
Ali's eyes flickered open to be greeted by the concrete ceiling of the cell she shared with her brother. Due to her being significantly smaller than him, it was agreed that she would take the top bunk and he would go underneath.
Alison grabbed a grey hoodie that was discarded at the bottom of her bed and pulled it over her shoulders before she carefully climbed down, doing her best not to wake her sleeping brother.
The brunette slipped her boots on and took a few steps outside of the cell, noting that nobody was up yet and the sun was only just rising. Ali thought to herself for a moment before deciding to go outside and get some fresh air, maybe watch the sunrise before everyone else got up and they all got back to work.
She grabbed her pistol and placed it in the back of her jeans as she stepped outside, greeted by the warm, but fresh, Georgia air. The amber hue of the sky indicated to her that based on the time of year, it was likely no later than 6:30am, which meant she had a bit of time to herself.
"What ya' doin'? Sneakin' out on us?" a voice spoke from behind her, causing Ali to almost scream as she turned to see Daryl, knife in hand with a cigarette between his lips.
"Jesus. You scared the shit outta me." she said in a whispered yell.
Daryl looked down at the rabbit he was skinning. His hands were bloodied and half of the rabbit had already been skinned. His crossbow was leaning neatly up against one of the railings within an arm's reach as he made quick work at salvaging the small amount of meat that a rabbit offered.
"Having fun?" Alison asked as she sat next to him, crossing her legs and trying (despite her disgust) to watch what he was doing incase she ever had to do it.
Daryl took a drag from his smoke, removing it from between his lips to respond "Wanna try?" he asked, offering her the blade.
Ali arched her brow before shaking her head "No, uh -I'm good."
Daryl chuckled at her apparent distaste, but handed her the knife anyway "Nah, be good for you ta' learn. Makes it easier for me if there's a lotta little shits like this to skin." he said, handing her the rabbit, its skin already half off.
Alison's face contorted but she eventually nodded. It had taken Daryl long enough to even offer to teach her anything so she wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to learn something new. She nodded, indicating that she was ready to learn.
Daryl looked over at her, leaning forward and repositioning the knife in her hand to give her better control. "So' you've start by pinchin' the skin with your fingers. Make a little cut" he instructed, to which Ali obeyed and did just that - making an almost surgical incision in the rabbits neck.
"Right. Then yer' gonna make a bigger cut, but you've gotta be careful not ta' cut into the meat. We need that" he stated, and once again Alison did as she was told and cut into the skin with a steady hand as she cut into the skin and the rabbit blood seeped onto her hands a little.
"Go underneath the cut you just made and stick to the skin." Daryl with his cigarette between his lips as he leant over again and guided her hand to the right depth to cut, which she did.
