Life in the Swan manor continued for the next seven months, everyone had their jobs and that helped make it work. Glenn and Maggie went on supply runs, Hershel and Beth kept the property in order while also tending to Lori who was now heavily pregnant. Lori and Carol handled the cooking, while Rick, T-Dog and Daryl took turns on the defence. Ali just drifted, it had been over half a year since she had last seen her sister. Of course, to begin with, she held onto the hope that she would be out there and she'd find her on one of her little excursions with Daryl but that just never seemed to happen. Wherever she was now was either far away, or dead.
Alison busied herself with working on her hunting and tracking skills that Daryl had taught her. It was a good way to get her mind off Lucy and all that happened at the farm as well as being her way of providing for the group, even if providing her house was probably enough.
William had finally found a way to release his own stress as the newfound world had begun to heighten his mental distress. Unknown things were playing their role in his mind. To keep himself distracted, the man toyed around with the idea of learning how to keep this group protected without the use of guns and ammunition as it started to become quite scarce. In what once was their father's antique room, he found an old trident that was surprisingly in pristine condition. Hours upon hours were spent in the yard and in the streets, practising the use and handling of such a weapon.
Alison's relationship with Rick continued to be challenged but they were getting there, she was upset with him for what he told her sister and he didn't like the way she questioned every decision he made but they were working on it and although she didn't agree with a lot of the things Rick said or did, Ali still had a lot of respect for him which had to count for something.
Maggie and Glenn had just resurfaced from one of their supply runs, having found very little. Ali was beginning to suspect that they were doing more than just looking for supplies while they were out on runs, but it wasn't her business and she was happy as long as Maggie was.
Ali was slowly becoming more of a skilled hunter. Daryl had given her some good lessons, and she had picked up some good tips and was confident enough to start going out alone at times. She never caught anything big, usually the odd squirrel or something but Daryl always praised her for it - which was nice.
Alison returned at the same time as Maggie and Glenn, giving Maggie a wink as the two of them walked into the house behind Glenn.
"Stop it" Maggie sighed.
"I'm not doing anything" Alison said, jokingly holding up her hands.
For all of her torment, Ali was genuinely happy for the two of them. Seeing Maggie happy made her happy, and these days - there wasn't enough happiness around.
Everyone was in the house, having settled into their jobs and the routine, getting ready to settle for the evening. Ali placed herself next to Maggie on a sofa, while everyone did the same and began eating.
Before anyone could take more than a bite of the beans and meat that they'd been given, T-Dog, who had been on watch that day, came running in frantically.
"THE HERD" He yelled, running into the house. "They are headed straight for us. We've gotta go. Now." T-Dog stated, as everyone leapt up to get their things that were scattered.
Alison felt her heart sink, the idea of coming back to the house just to leave again hurt. She had very little real family, so the idea of going and leaving the last remaining bits of them behind was hard but she knew if she wanted to survive - they had to leave, and they had to do it quickly.
William was sitting in his room, sharpening the tips of his trident when he heard the distress call. He quickly stood up from his spot on the bed. He was at his doorway when a thought crossed his mind, a thought he'd keep to himself until the time came when it needed to be brought to the surface. He spun around and hurried to his bedside table. He opened the drawer and shuffled through the many items inside of it until he found the matte black box that contained the ring he was once going to offer Maggie. He quickly shoved the box into his pocket and grabbed his bag, throwing it over his shoulder. He left the room to meet up with the others.
