(idk why, but I think this song fits...5 And for the question in the last chapter, I think you can guess which option you readers wanted and which I went with ;))

"Evacuate the premises, detonation of on-site explosive in 5 minutes."

So, there was now a choice to make.

Risk the countdown and still look for what she came here for; she knows it is near, so near.

Or run and hope the explosion that stupid Winters somehow armed will wipe everything out and the sample will be destroyed.

Wendy had no idea how far the explosion would reach and if she'd get away unscathed; she didn't know if Umbrella would take the time to evacuate things from this one facility, she didn't know if it was Winters himself or a guard that actually started the count down.

But what she did know.

Is that she stuck to her word.

She makes a promise, and she keeps it.

And she had promised a father delirious enough to search for allies where he is hated and look at the monster she is and ask her for her help, with a common enemy in Umbrella as it took something important away from both and turned them into what they weren't meant to be.

She made a promise.

And so.

"Detonation in 4 minutes." Echoed the alarm.

Wendy turned tail, trusting that humanity would make the same mistake they always do, and ran down the cramped halls, holding the little bundle in her arms.

She considered this baby to be fortunate; she knew the way back, she could get out, she was fast, and she couldn't say as much for Winters, not knowing where he was, not knowing if he was fast enough, he was already meant to die once, maybe this time is his time.

She didn't care for what she knocked down from the shelves, hearing glass shatter and paper scatter, but this was a race against time; it could be dynamite up to a nuclear warhead for all she knew. This facility was hidden and disguised in the forest; everything can happen.

From inside, it was easy to knock the door open, ramming her shoulder in it, though she skidded across the linoleum floor like a cartoon as she tried to run ahead before her boots finally found a grip on the surface.

Even in a human body, she threw her arm down, faster on all fours, well... Three. She lifts her arm enough to use it as a brace when hitting the wall and push off it into a corner turn.

Crossing paths with guards was not expected, but lunging over them, watching their agape mouths as she gained more air than any human should before a kick took the skull off a neck and sent it bouncing like a soccer ball.

Landing, she whipped out her free arm, grabbed another's sidearm, and shot it point blank in his face before turning it on the other two, downing another before ducking the shots from the last one, turning her body as she felt the automatic spray bullets up into her hip, side, and shoulder, blocking the baby from further injuries.

She felt her flesh rip and tear open, a bone tail bursting forward enough to slash out with the end of it through the bulletproof vest and kill this last man before she ran off; time seemed to be going by so fast.

...

"Detonation in 3 minutes."

But she can be faster.

She, for once, thought an apology as she hurled the baby through the hall to give her enough clearance, with the beast bursting free from the human skin, the baby landing oddly softly in the much larger lower jaws of the beast.
