Ch. 38

"Dad..." You whispered.

Jr followed in behind him and shut the door. There was a second of stillness between you and your father as you gazed into his ember eyes before you rushed over to him. He quickly embraced you in a loving hug, letting out a relieved laugh while lifting you into the air. An overwhelming wave of comfort came over you as he held you in his arms, helping to calm your fighting emotions.

Maybe everything will be ok...

"y/n, my dear child! You're home!" Bowser said with a mixture of joy and relief before placing you back on the ground. "I didn't believe Jr when he told me you were actually here!"

"Wait! You didn't believe me!?" Jr dramatically questioned while hopping up to his bed. "Actually, I don't think I would have believed me either..."

There was a small amount of concern forming in your fathers face as he looked down at you with misty eyes.

"y/n, you look exhausted..." Bowser said quietly as he gently placed his large clawed hand to your face.

You could feel your eyes start to tear up from his worried gaze.

"So much has happened since I left..." You muttered while stepping back and looking away to avoid your fathers eyes.

You then caught a glance of yourself in the mirror once again.

You quickly avoided the sight of your reflection as you felt a pit form in your stomach from the reminder that you were wearing Luigi's hoodie. You just wanted to focus on your family and the task at hand, so you tried your best to wall off the overwhelming and confusing emotions you were experiencing.

"Um- where's Kamek?" You quickly asked while walking over to Jr and sitting down next to him, choosing to just casually slip off the hoodie and place it behind you on the bed.

You just couldn't handle looking at it right now...

"Kamek is busy at the moment dealing with an incident that unfolded in the north market place." Bowser explained while giving you somewhat of a confused look. "I don't know the details, but I'm sure it's nothing serious..."

Incident in the north market place?

...

Yeah, that's probably my fault...

"He'll probably be done with that soon... but that doesn't matter right now!" He suddenly said while shaking off his thoughts, a tone of distress rising in his voice as he anxiously stepped towards you. "Is everything alright!? Are you alright!? Why did you come home!?"

"Woah, dad, It's ok! I'm alright!" You tried to reassure him. "I-I just came home because... b-because I had to- um..."

You began to stumble over your words as you were hit with immediate uncertainty.

You had no idea how to tell your father about the power star...

"y/n... why are you home?" Bowser hesitantly asked again while an almost knowing look of dread was forming behind his eyes.

You took in a deep breath and stood up from the bed, preparing yourself to try and go over everything you wanted your father to know once you spoke those words...

"The... The Mushroom Kingdom has no power star, but the brothers plan to get another by collecting the shards of a fallen power star and fusing them back together. I think we should-"

"WHAT!?" Jr loudly interrupted in shock as your father now had a dumbstruck look across his face. "I thought you just came home because you missed us, or something! I didn't think you'd learn life changing information this soon!"
