Time flowed unyielding through the celestial realm, each moment stretching endlessly as Lan Wangji waited. He had expected a sign, a whisper, perhaps a fleeting shadow of Wei Ying's presence. Instead, silence blanketed him, heavy and absolute. Days turned into weeks, and with each passing moment, the absence grew heavier. Seeking solace, Wangji would often sit beneath the ancient willow tree, his fingers trailing the patterns etched into its bark, his thoughts tangled in the memory of a friendship that had begun to feel more like a dream than reality.

He missed Wei Ying's laughter—the spark of vitality that lit the world around him. He missed the restless energy that had once seemed overwhelming but now felt essential. Wangji hadn't anticipated the void Wei Ying would leave behind, but it was undeniable. Wei Ying had carved himself into Wangji's life long before either of them realized it.

Their connection had started in childhood, when Wei Ying had been the only one to understand Wangji's need for space, offering companionship without intrusion. As they grew older, Wei Ying's unrelenting joy became a beacon in their world, brightening even the darkest days. Yet when Wei Ying had recently reached out to him, eager to rekindle their bond, Wangji had hesitated. The weight of Odin's orders and the fear of endangering Wei Ying had held him back, despite the quiet happiness Wei Ying's effort had stirred within him.

Now, with Wei Ying gone once again, Wangji found himself adrift. His longing for the other man had grown into something deeper, more profound—a yearning that felt foreign yet inevitable. It was no longer mere friendship he sought; it was something he scarcely dared to name. But the thought of Wei Ying's rejection, of the impossibility of what he desired, anchored him in silence.

The seasons shifted, and autumn's golden leaves drifted gently to the ground. One crisp evening, a knock at his door broke the stillness. Wangji rose swiftly, his heart thundering in his chest. As he opened the door, hope flared to life—and there he was.

Wei Ying stood before him, his familiar figure framed by the twilight. His eyes, filled with apology, met Wangji's steady gaze, while a mischievous smile played at the corners of his lips. For a moment, Wangji simply stared, as though afraid the vision might dissolve

Five months had slipped by since their last meaningful conversation, though fate had ensured their paths crossed in passing. Those moments were fleeting, marked only by Wei Ying's hurried pace, arms weighed down with scrolls and documents, his focus elsewhere. No words had been exchanged, just the briefest glances, before duty pulled them apart again.

At first, the silence gnawed at Lan Wangji. Had Wei Ying grown weary of his company? Had his reserved nature proved too dull, too rigid for someone as irrepressible as the God of Night? The questions lingered, haunting the quiet corners of his mind. Yet, as days turned to weeks, Wangji began to find unexpected solace in the stillness. It became a time to reflect, to confront the unspoken longing that had slowly but surely carved a place within him.

Now, as Wei Ying stood before him, the quiet seemed to shatter like glass, replaced by the hum of something he couldn't quite name.

"Lan Zhan, did you miss me?" Wei Ying's voice was light, his grin as bold as ever, as though no time at all had passed.

Lan Wangji's gaze remained composed, though his voice carried a flicker of uncertainty. "Why are you here, Wei Ying?"

Wei Ying leaned in with a grin that practically glowed with mischief. "Because we're friends now, aren't we?" He placed a hand over his chest, eyes sparkling with feigned sincerity, the gesture so utterly Wei Ying that it left no room for reproach.

Lan Wangji regarded him for a moment before stepping aside with a quiet sigh. "Come in."

Wei Ying's grin widened as he stepped inside, a small triumph flickering in his eyes. For him, this was more than a casual invitation—it was a victory, hard-won after months of distance.
