it was the day of the sports festival. I, along with much of my class, was nervous. We sat in one of the rooms waiting for our turn to be called. I was chatting with Mina about how we wished we could be in our costumes, but we knew it was so everything could be fair. Still, i worried about shredding mine. Iida came into the room and informed us to prepare ourselves, that the events were about to start. i noticed how the rest of the class was. Izuku looked nervous, Kacchan was focused, and Shoto was being... intense. It was a bit nerve wrecking.
"Midoriya," Shoto said. He was back to is hard exterior he had around the class. I, along with the others, turned our attention to him as he continued. "From an objective standpoint, I think its fair to say I'm stronger than you." This rubbed me the wrong way, especially as my childhood friend agreed. "All Might is helping you, hes in your corner. It's not really my business, but know that I will beat you." I frowned some at this. This was a side of Shoto i wasn't use to, and i didn't like it. He continued his intense stare at Izuku while some of my classmates spoke up, curious why he was declaring war. I saw Kacchan's face turn sour out of the corner of my eye. "we're not here to make friends." he added on. I felt my breathing hitch some as mina shot me a concerned glance. "this isn't a team effort," he added, walking away. To my surprise though, Izuku spoke up.
"wait up. I don't know what you're thinking, or why you are saying those things. Yeah, you are better. You probably are better and have more potential than any of us." Kirishima tried to butt in a disperse the situation but Izuku continued. "Everyone is coming at us with all they've got. Everyone is aiming for the top. I am too." Silence fell over the room as we all started to focus in on what was ahead. i felt Mina tap my should then softly whispered,
"bathroom, lets go." I followed her out, both of us acting as normal as possible. Once inside i let out a breath of air i didn't realize i was holding. "are you ok sweetie?" she asked. "you looked upset..." I let out a breathy 'Heh'.
" Was it that obvious?" SHe nodded. I sighed and then decided to open up. "Last night i was at Shoto's."
"To train?"
"that was the plan. Only... he had a different one." She raised her eyebrow but continued to listen. "we ended up getting... handsy. It was great in the moment, but when i got home i felt guilty. I kept thinking back to Kacchan and me in high school. I started to question myself and my relationship with Shoto. And now to see this side of him... i dont know." Mina put a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
"Its ok. That's a lot to have weighing on your mind." I nodded sadly. "But hey, lets focus on this sports fest. take all that negativity energy to show everyone how strong you are. Get out the frustration. then see how you feel." I gave a grateful smile to my friend. Suddenly, Momo ran in.
"hey! Its time for heads to go!" I nodded with determination, a new fire lit under me.
As we entered the arena I held my head high. I was here to show i was strong. that i will be a hero. I wanted my dad to be proud seeing me on TV, and my mother watching from above.
"you ready?" Mina asked beside me. I nodded with firm motion. Present Mic continued to yell and introduce all the other classes. We walked up to our assigned section. Once we all were in place the R rated hero, Midnight, introduced she would be in charge of us. She hyped the crowed up before stating the first year rep would say a pledge. Suddenly we all froze as she announced who it was.
