How huge is this palace? We're walking for ten minutes now and it doesn't seem to come to an end. The butler named Hoseok didn't say anything on our way. But I wasn't also in the mood to say something, so we both remained quiet.
After another two minutes, we finally entered a room what seemed to be a kitchen. Correction: huge enormous kitchen. I saw plenty of girls working there, like it was depending on their lifes. When they saw Hoseok, they immediately stopped working and bowed ninety degrees.
Hoseok nodded a bit and indicated them to continue their work. 'Miss. Celia. Can you come here?' He said. A elderly woman stepped forward. 'What can I do for you, mr. Jung?' She asked. 'Miss. Celia, Our Majesty ordered me to bring this girl to you. She'll work here as a new cleaning- and- cooking maid.' Hoseok said.
Miss. Celia looked at me and I immediately bowed. 'Teach her what she should do. Remember, she will be in range 10, so you know what to do. I'll leave it to you now.' Hoseok said and left the kitchen.
Miss. Celia nodded and told the other maids to continue working. She then grabbed my arm and dragged me to a room which was full of beds. 'Okay, so you'll be working as our new maid? Remember, you're in range 10, which is the lowest range. I'm not allowed to help you with anything and well... in summary: you don't have the worth of a human anymore here. I'm sorry.'
Miss. Celia stroked my arm. 'I can't treat you that well in presence of the highnesses, but behind the scenes, I won't mistreat you. How old are you actually?' Miss. Celia asked. 'I'm 19 years old, miss.' I said. Miss. Celia gasped a bit. 'You're the youngest maid I've ever seen in my 50 years of serving for the King! How did you come here?!' She asked.
'I actually don't know why I'm here. I'm the daughter of the baker, but my dad probably did something in the bread which was dangerous for the King, so the King took him. But me too, but I have no idea what I've done. I've been here for 10 days, in the prison. 414th one, to be exact. I also have no idea what's happening in my life right now..' I explained as fast as I could.
'Daughter... What you've been through is rough! You could've been killed! It surprises me that the King didn't separate your head and body! I have no idea what it is, but I won't interfere in it. Next topic. What will you do here.' Miss. Celia said. I nodded.
'You'll be in charge of cleaning and cooking. You'll be cleaning the hall, kitchen and dining room every morning and evening. I'll warn you, when someone finds a bit of dust, you're dead. And about cooking, you will cook for the maids every evening. And, to prepare mentally, there are around 50 maids who need to be fed. I'm sorry, daughter. I don't make the rules.' Miss. Celia said.
'Don't feel guilty, miss. Celia. I'll do what they want. I'll die eventually, maybe because of suicide, or because of overtiredness, or maybe if I make a mistake. I don't know. But I also don't care. I'll start by now. What am I supposed to do first?' I said.
Miss. Celia sighed and told me to clean the hall first, she gave me the maids' costume and the utensils to clean. I took it and went to the hall.
After maybe two hours, I was almost done. The hall was huge! When I entered the hall, I almost fainted by the thought of cleaning all this.
It was all in a bloody red theme, just as the Kings' personality. There were guards everywhere. I was a little tensed under their gaze on me. But soon I ignored it and just continued cleaning.
Now, I was almost done. Suddenly, I heard a lot of trumpets. But I ignored it, as it wouldn't be important for me. Miss. Celia didn't say anything about an event I got to attend, so I just continued cleaning.
After a few minutes, it seemed like the sound was more nearby. But I kept ignoring it. I heard faint footsteps, so I carefully looked up. Suddenly I was eye in eye with the King..
I gulped nervously and looked down. I bowed and stepped aside. I'm so stupid... Of course they would be going through the hall! I slapped my forehead mentally. I felt the King's gaze on me and I instantly shivered.
For me, it felt like six hours had passed in tension, but in reality it was just a few seconds. Fortunate, they continued walking, while I made my body as little as I could. My first task, first day. I would be surely killed by now.
It lowkey surprised me that the King just kept walking. I mean, he could've just took his sword and slice my head. But okay, luckily he didn't.
I sighed and tried to calm my breathing. After maybe five minutes it was steady and well. I just took the utensils and started to continue cleaning.
EVENING:
'Idris! Come here!' A maid called me. I was currently cleaning the last chair of the dining table. I stood up straight and went to the maid. 'It's night time now. You gotta make something to eat for...', the maid looked at miss. Celia, '...with how much are we?' She asked between nose and lips. '54 tonight.' Miss. Celia answered without looking up. 'Okay. So you gotta make something eatable for 54 maids. Plus yourself is 55. Just make something which can be cooked fast. Do your best!' The maid encouraged me.
I looked at her surprised. I thought everyone was meant to act rudely or something to me? But this maid didn't. I quickly nodded my head and wiped my hands on my apron. 'Here, wash your hands before you start.' The same maid handed me a wooden bucket with water. I bowed a bit and started washing my hands in the bucket.
'The bowls are there and the cauldron is there. Can you make a fire by yourself?' The maid asked. 'I- I think I can make it myself.' I answered while looking at the ground. 'Hey, don't worry. When there are no other people around, I'll treat you like a human, okay? My name is Sabrina. Just call me Sabrina when there are no other people around, okay? If there are other people, call me with Miss. Sabrina. I don't like it either, but otherwise you can be killed.' Sabrina explained. I nodded and thanked her.
'I'll leave you alone for now. I gotta finish my work, I'll come to check up on you later. You know how to cook right?' She asked. I nodded assuringly. 'Phew, that's fine. Just make something, bye!' Sabrina said and rushed away.
I sighed and looked around me. 'Where is the wood..?' I asked myself loudly.
'It's right there.' A deep and intimidating voice said.
