I got a chance to visit the etiquette school again. When everything was settled, Miss. Jacobs sent me to my class. 'Good luck!' she encouraged me. 'Thank you, miss!' I bowed and knocked on the wooden door of the classroom.
'Come in!' A voice called. I slowly opened the door and bowed to the woman that was standing in front of the class. 'Good morning, miss. Harles.' I greeted her. 'Come on in.' she indicated me to. I did as she said.
I actually tried to be as formal as I could be, and I was so scared that I would make a mistake. I tried to fix my attention only at the teacher in front of me, but I felt the judging stares from the girls around me piercing through my back.
'What's your name?' Miss. Harles asked me. 'I'm Lee Idris, miss.' I answered. 'Oh, are you that pathetic girl who came into our school with using the King's name?' A voice shouted through the class. 'Chelsea! Watch your tone!' Miss. Harles shouted.
I looked back, only to see a girl with an evil smirk looking at me. 'But miss, I was teached to speak the truth all the time!' The girl named Chelsea said. 'But this is not the truth, as you actually don't know her personality. So you better apologise and shut your mouth!' Miss. Harles said.
Chelsea sighed gushy, stood up, bowed and muttered an apology. 'You can sit down, Chelsea. And you too, Lee Idris. There is still some space left between Eunchae and Winter, you can sit there.' Miss. Harles pointed to the direction where two lovely-looking girls were sitting.
I thanked her and walked towards the two girls. I was kinda scared that they would be judging me too, but fortunately, they didn't. Instead, they both had welcoming and warm expressions plastered on their faces.
One of them gestured me to take a seat, which I did. The girl on my left extended her hand. 'Hi, I'm Winter! Nice to meet you!' She said. 'Uh... Hi, Winter. My... my name is Idris.' I nervously said. I wasn't really used to making and meeting friends.
A hand tapped on my shoulder. I looked at my right side and saw the other girl. 'Hi! I'm Eunchae! Nice to meet you too!' She said. I greeted her back, but then the teacher shushed us. 'Young ladies in the back, can you please be quiet?' She said.
We obeyed quickly, on which the teacher started her lesson. 'Today, we'll learn how to greet someone properly and politely. This way of greeting has three levels, you can say. The lowest level is how to greet someone that is not close, but also not a stranger to you. The middle level is greeting someone who's a stranger, older than you and one or two higher ranges above you. And the ultra level is when you greet the Royal Family, no one else.
But we'll start simply, by the lowest level. Idris... and Jisung, would you like to come forward?' The teacher asked. I stiffened, I didn't know anything about etiquette, but I just stood up and approached the teacher.
I saw a squirrel-look-a-like boy coming forward. He gave me a disgusted glare, which I didn't expect from this guy. His personality is probably not the same as how he looks. Miss Harles positioned us both, making us stand opposite to each other.
'Alright. Jisung, let's imagine that you are the acquintance of Idris mother. How would you greet him, Idris?' Miss. Harles said. My heart stung when she mentioned the word 'mother'. This would not be a realistic point of view for me, but I didn't want to be annoying and just went with the flow, how much it would hurt.
'Uh- Hello mister Jisung?' I tried. I heard a sound of laughter going through the room. My cheeks instantly heated up in embarrasment. 'No, Idris. This is way too informal and considered very rude! You should never greet someone like this, Idris!' Miss Harles scolded me.
'I'm so sorry, Miss Harles. But what should I do instead? I never learned it...' I whispered the last part, still embarrassed. 'You should bow, then greet him with: 'Good afternoon, Mister Han. It's a pleasure to meet you here!', and then you may look up.' Miss Harles instructed me.
