Ivan's P.O.V
I was taken aback by her reply. Why would she even say no to this offer? I thought she'd say yes. That was what I was expecting. I'd love to keep her close to me. But she rejected my offer. I didn't want to ask why because I've always respected her decision but this just doesn't sit right with me.
I took in a breath then nodded my head. "I know you surely gave it a good thought. If that's what you want. You are a brilliant young lady and I know every company would love to have you working there." Every company including mine. She knows I own several companies here in town so I'm very sure she's going to a company not mine. She's too brilliant to decide that.
I look into her eyes and said; "I'd love to have you close to me." She smiled, gave me a nod as if she was assuring me, then mutters, "you will. I'll be close to you." At least that sounded promising.

I woke up in the middle of the night to my Dad screaming on top of his lungs. I was sure he was shouting on my mom. That's what he does. I don't know what's even wrong with him. His anger issues always gets the best of him. My father is just someone I'll never want to be, like, why would I be like him? He's so fierce looking and I'm sure he's the reason most people are afraid of us.
I slipped off my bed, got my feet into my slippers and head to their direction. The scream got more intense as I approached. I'm sure my mom hasn't even done anything wrong to deserve this. Raymond was standing at their doorway, looking at our dad with hate. You can see it from the way he clenched his fist. Immediately he spotted me, he walked to me.
"Ivan, the man who claims to me our father is yelling at our mom simply because she asked him to take some rest before day breaks." I just knew mom didn't do anything bad. The man who claims to be our father just can't be understanding. Isn't that what a caring wife should do? It's not a crime to tell him to sleep but the man who claims to be our dad just wouldn't understand.
I walked over to their room. Mom had her head hanged low. She glued her eyes to the floor. She had nothing to say. Poor mom, why would she agree to marry this awful man? That's what an arranged marriage can bring. I'm sure she didn't even want to marry him but she had no other choice. She couldn't even stand for herself.
I took some few steps into their room, grabbed mom's hand, fake bowed to that man and pulled to mom towards the entrance. "Ivan," he roared grabbing Mom's other hand. "Bring me back my wife!!" He added. His wife? As if he had ever treaded her as such. "She's my mom too Mr. Mon-dragon and I wish to protect my mom from any danger. She deserves better. Now let go of her." I said looking straight into his eyes.
One thing my dad hates is for someone to a stand against him. He hesitantly let go of her hand and I fake bowed again then sent my mom to my room. I let her sit on the couch in my room while I served her some water. She took it with shaky hands and I knew she's afraid of my dad. She gently took a sip and handed it back to me.
Raymond came and sat next to her and I also did the same. We both held her hand and sat in silence trying to help her calm herself. Then she burst out crying. Poor mom. How could she even stand that man? I pulled her closer to me in a hug, continuously patting her back. You see, sometimes women are like babies. The only thing they need in such situations is a hug and the feeling of security.
She cried for some time and whispered to me; "never be like your dad." As of I'd love to be. "I promise mom." I whispered back to her and continued patting her back. Raymond still held her hand. My mom is one person I cherish most in this world. I stood, went into my closet and grabbed an outfit to wear. I have to send mom to my penthouse. At least she'll have some kind of peace there. She'll be at least far away from her evil so called husband.
I quickly changed, gesturing to Ray to dress up too. Then we led mom slowly into my car. On the way to the penthouse, I placed some calls to get her new clothings. She was only in her Pajamas and I would curse myself if I had told her to get into her room and dress up. The penthouse was at the other end of town, some minutes from the house. On the way, I stopped by a convenience store to get some food for mom.
It took us almost 45 minutes to get to the penthouse. I held Mom's hand in mine as I led her down the hallway to the room. I took the private elevator not wanting the media and other people looking at my mom in this state. She was vulnerable and we needed to protect her the most. The elevator door slid open and I led her inside. It didn't take long before her new dresses came in.
She sat on the sofa, looking better than before. Mom is a very beautiful woman. She deserves to be happy and not living such life with this miserable person. I stood in front of her, handing her a coffe. "Mom, have this." I whispered to her. She looked up at me, extended her hand and took it as she whispered a light thank you. I could read her lips.
I was still looking at her when she patted beside her on the sofa for me to sit. I walked slowly to side and sat down. She gave me her smile, sipped on her coffe and smiled. "It tastes great." I nodded at her and assured her to finish all. After she has finished, she seemed much better and her facial expression was now her normal self. At least she has forgotten a little about her husband.
I peered over at Raymond who had laid flat on one of the sofa. It was round and comfy like a bed. Of course he'll doze off. He knew Mom was safe here. I went over to him, removed his shoe and brought a blanket to cover him. Then I went over to mom who was studying my every move. She smiled as she patted beside her again for me to sit. I took a sit beside her.
She reached out for my head and brushed a strand of hair off my face. "My little boy." She whispered. I looked at her and with how Lilly thought me to smile, I did. I smiled at her. At first her smile widened as she smiled back then she looked at me with shock. Aha, that was the reaction I was expecting. "Ivan?" She said as of it was the only thing she could get out of her mouth.
"Y...,y....you just smiled at me." She finally said as a single tear roller down her check. "Who taught you how to smile like that?" She said as of she was aware someone indeed thought me. "A girl." I said. She gasped and then smiled again. Looking so relaxed as if she had already approved of Lilly. She will though.
