CHAPTER FOURTEEN

cassette tapes.

"STEVE, CAN YOU PASS ME MY SHIRT?" Jennifer asked as she pulled on her pants in front of the mirror. The two were getting ready for work, Steve working at FamilyVideo with Robin, whilst Jennifer worked at a music store just a few streets away from it. "Steve?" She called out again after hearing no response. "Steve!" She called once more, turning around to see him just staring at her.

The girl walked up to him and grabbed the shirt herself, though, not before slapping Steve upside the head. "Ow." He muttered. "You finish later than me, right?"

"Mhm. You finish like, three hours earlier so don't worry about picking me up." Jennifer responded, putting her earrings in.

"Don't worry about it. It's not like I'm doing anything after besides waiting for you to finish. I don't want you walking home late, either." At that, Jennfier couldn't help but smile at herself softly in the mirror.

She looked herself over once more, fixing her shirt before turning to Steve who had lied back on her bed, waiting for the girl to finish. "Alright, lets go."

Steve hopped up, following after Jennifer as they walked out of her room and towards the front door. "Bye, Dad. Love you." She said to Robert who stood in the kitchen making breakfast. She walked up to him, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek, the man reciprocating her last statement back to her.

Robert then turned his gaze to Steve, his face turning slightly colder, one which made Steve feel nothing but anxiety and nerves. "Uh- goodbye, Mr. Lawson." He said, giving the man an awkward smile which Robert made sure not to reciprocate, instead, responding with the 'protective father' look.

JENNIFER STOOD BEHIND THE REGISTER, SENDING THE CUSTOMER SHE HAD JUST FINISHED SERVING A POLITE SMILE AS HE WALKED OUT. Once the man was gone, she sighed out of boredom, going back to fiddling with the broken cassette tape another customer had brought in earlier.

The bell went off signalling the a person entering the store, though, Jennifer kept focused on the tape. "You're late." She called out.

"I know, I know. Has it come in yet?" The voice questioned as he walked behind the register, next to Jennifer.

"Like I said last time, as soon as the shipment comes in, you'll be first to know, Munson." She said, finally looking up at him.

Eddie simply sighed out of annoyance. "Not even-"

"Nope, no vinyl, either." Jennifer cut him off, her co-worker groaning aloud. "Now come on, we've already had four messed up cassette tapes come in and it's thirty-minutes into our shift."
