CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

the shining.

JENNIFER, EDDIE, AND DUSTIN STOOD AROUND THE EERIE TRAILER, EVERY CRACK OR CAW IN THE DISTANCE CAUSING THEIR HEADS TO SNAP TOWARDS THE ORIGIN OF THE SOUND, THEIR ANXIOUS BREATHING STOPPING BEFORE FINALLY ALLOWING THEIR TIGHT SHOULDERS TO RELAX ONCE AGAIN. The walkie-talkie sat comfortably in Dustin's sweaty palms waiting to hear the go-ahead from Robin. Jennifer had begun to rethink the choice of song, not knowing 'Master of Puppets' nearly as well as Eddie did, though, she couldn't have been all that far behind considering it was all he'd play at work the moment it was released. Jennifer felt her body jolt when the talkie screeched, Robin's scratchy voice calling out from the other end. "She's in. Move on to phase three."

"Copy that. Initiating phase three."  Dustin replied, Jennifer's heart rate rapidly increasing as she stood up, Eddie sitting next to her following suit. Feedback crackled through the large amp sitting on the trailer roof as Dustin turned the volume to high, the boy giving a nod to Eddie and Jennifer who stood just across from him.

"Chrissy, this is for you." Eddie muttered before strumming loudly at the chord, the sound echoing through the amp. Jennifer continued to adjust herself, her guitar sat comfortably in her hold, Eddie attempting to reassure her through a soft nod. Eddie's fingers danced along the neck of the guitar, Jennifer playing background, still a significant role but much less of that than Eddie's.

The sky crackled red above them so brightly it was as if the sun had turned blood-red, shining down on them. Dustin excitedly nodded along as they stood on the roof of the trailer, hoping and praying to lure the Demobats over and away from the Creel house so that Steve, Robin, and Nancy could get to Vecna. Eddie's head crashed up and down as he played, partially focused and partially having fun, excited that he was playing in front of somewhat of an audience.

The sky rumbled loudly above them, Jennfier partly concerned that it was covering up the sound of the guitars from the amp from travelling far enough, though her concerns were quickly calmed when she saw the bats flying swiftly towards them in the distance, Dustin's voice confirming so. "Guys! We gotta lock down in T-minus thirty seconds!" He yelled out over the sound of the guitars, Jennifer's heart somehow racing faster than it had been before. "T-minus twenty!" He counted down, the sound of the - what appeared to be - hundreds of Demobats slowly becoming clearer and clearer.
