CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

perfect.

AS THEY NEARED EDDIE'S TRAILER, THE MORE THEIR HEARTS RACED, THEIR PALMS SWEAT, THEIR TONGUE'S DRIED OUT, THE MORE THE FEELING OF IMPENDING DOOM NEARED THEM, TAKING THEM WHOLE AND WITHOUT A LICK OF TROUBLE. They were terrified, but they also knew they had to do it.

Steve tossed the small carry bag onto the ground once he got inside, looking up at the large gate in the ceiling anxiously, the makeshift rope still hanging between worlds defying all laws of physics. "Be careful." Dustin said.

"Thanks, buddy." He replied, hitting his shoulder softly before grabbing hold of the tied sheets. "Here goes nothing." He murmured, jumping and pulling himself up towards the gate, climbing and climbing until he finally fell through, looking back up at the others above.

"What does he want us to do, applaud?" Robin muttered sarcastically, Nancy snickering softly, and Jennifer replied with a smug smile.

"All right." Steve called out as he dropped the dirty mattress onto the ground beneath the gate to provide the others with a soft landing. "Let's go."

Jennifer let out an anxious breath before stepping forward, dropping the bag on her back onto the ground as she did so. She paused as she grabbed hold of the sheets, taking a moment to regain her composure before pulling herself up.

As she neared closer and closer to the gate, her heart raced faster, part of her scared that once she fell through, she'd be pulled right back to Vecna as she had been last time. Jennifer's eyes locked onto Steve's from above her, the boy giving her a look of reassurance before she continued climbing. Her heart dropped to her stomach as she began falling, a sigh of relief escaping her lips as she hit the somewhat soft mattress, Steve helping to pull her up.

The couple looked at one another for a few moments, their eyes filled with every emotion in the book, from fear, to love, to even a hint of relief. Eventually, they moved back, the others and their equipment falling onto the mattress below before finally, Dustin fell through, the boy startled as Steve and Eddie grabbed hold of his hoodie, yanking him up from the ground.
