CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

unfulfilled.

AS SHE MET THE DARK SKY OF THE UPSIDE DOWN, THE WORLD STILL RUMBLING WITH EACH CRACK OF THUNDER, THE SKY FLASHING RED, HER EYES SCANNED THE GROUNDS, HER BODY TAKING OFF IN A SPRINT ONCE SHE'D SPOTTED EDDIE JUST OUTSIDE THE TRAILER PARK. She watched on as she ran, watching Eddie lie in the middle of the swarm of Demobats, the creatures swarming him viciously as they grasped tightly onto his neck, his name leaving her mouth in a loud scream, not that he could hear it over his own bellows.

Jennifer's chest heaved as she ran to the Demobats, an action she couldn't have imagined herself performing. As she neared closer and closer, her body crashed to the ground, a sharp stinging pain emitting from the side of her waist as stray creatures toppled her down. Before managing to cause any more damage, the girl swung her spear relentlessly, killing the two Demobats in one clean swoop; Jennifer quickly pulled herself back up and raced to the long-haired boy screaming on the ground.

His yells echoed through her eyes, tears already welling in her eyes as her heart ached. This is exactly what she'd been terrified of, she couldn't lose anyone else, she told Eddie that herself, and yet there she was, rushing towards the boy who lay in pain on the ground, his limbs pulled out and his throat constricting, blood escaping his body at a rapid pace.

The girl watched in shock as the creatures suddenly began to fall dead from the sky, quickly raising her shield above her head, blocking them from hitting her body directly, though, her eyes remained locked on the motionless boy just a few meters ahead of her. As the sky cleared of deadly creatures, Jennifer's knees hardly left the ground as she practically crawled towards Eddie, the sound of Demobat bones crunching beneath her limbs rattling through her brain. "Shit, Eddie!" She called out, the sound of him choking on his own blood quickly tattooing itself into her brain, the sight of his neck bloodied, chunks of flesh ripped from his bones etched into her mind, Eddie did nothing but give the girl a sad smile.

Jennifer held gently onto Eddie's head, carefully playing him on her lap, careful to not make any sudden movements as he already had begun hissing out of pain lying perfectly still. "Oh God!" Dustin exclaimed as he limped closer, Jennifer looked up at the newly arriving boy for a moment before looking back at Eddie. "Oh God, Eddie." Dustin cried out, kneeling down on the other side of the boy, his hands hovering over his wounds for a moment before looking at his face.
