CHAPTER TWENTY

caught.

WHILST THE OTHER'S SLEPT, MAX AND JENNIFER SAT IN THE WHEELER'S KITCHEN, MAX USING HOLLY'S CRAYONS TO DRAW OUT WHERE SHE HAD BEEN WHEN VECNA HELD HER IN HIS GRASP. Jennifer had woken up as soon as she heard Max get up, both because was hardly asleep at all and that she had become a light-sleeper ever since her first run in with a Demogorgon - which did prove difficult when she slept with Steve considering he would do nothing but toss and turn and kick his legs out as he slept, but she endured.

"Morning guys." Karen welcomed Nancy and Dustin, Jennifer turning her head back at the sound of her voice. Seeing the two in the kitchen, Jennifer stood up, resting a light hand on Max's shoulder before walking past Nancy and Dustin.

"I'm gonna go lie down for a little longer..." She murmured, the dark circles under her eyes telling Nancy all she needed to know. The girl went back to the basement, stepping over the others before climbing onto Steve's lap, knowing it was her only chance of getting any more sleep before everyone was inevitably loud and awake. Still half-asleep, Steve sniffled, moving one arm to rest on the small of his girlfriends back before sighing and falling back to sleep.

After what had felt like five minutes - but was actually almost thirty which, still, is close to nothing - Jennifer felt Steve gently shaking her awake. "What...?" She murmured lowly, opening her eyes slightly before digging her face back into the comfort and warmth of Steve's chest.

"We gotta get going, Nancy has an idea." He spoke softly, caressing Jennifer's hair which, if anything, was only making her feel more tired. After a few moments, Jennifer sighed, standing up off Steve's body and stretching her arms up, quietly yawning.

The group slowly made their way out to the car once they had filled backpacks with everything they needed and were moments away from getting in when Nancy stopped them. "Wait, shit..." She murmured. "Eddie still needs food." She remembers, thinking silently for a moment whilst the rest hung around.

"We can just grab something on the way and drop it off, no?" Robin questioned, the backpack on her shoulders beginning to grow heavier and heavier.

"Yeah, we could, but... I mean, he has been alone for a while now. And with everything going on, it probably wouldn't be the worst idea if someone kept him company for a little bit." Nancy said aloud, everyone staying silent, waiting for someone to speak up.
