Poppy called me down just a few minutes later. I entered the infirmary, sick to my stomach. I felt like this was my fault. Like guilt ran through my head all the way down to my feet.
I walked into the room Sally was in. Poppy led me to her and left after she did. She was sitting at the edge of her hospital like bed. I walked over to her and sat next to her while looking at the floor, just like she was.
"Hey Sally, I heard about what happened. About you and the boss." I slowly looked over to her, but she wouldn't even nudge her eyeball. "Yeah, we always fight so I'm not surprised. I'm not that angry about the situation." she chuckled. "At least you aren't angry about it. Did Wally at least apologize to you?" I asked raising an eyebrow. "Poppy made him when I woke up." she explained.
She finally turned her head enough to look at me. Bandages on her nose because it seemed to be bleeding bad still. I eeked.
"Wow, he hit you right in the nose?" I asked, surprised. "Yeah, I had no time to react. I fought back but it was nothing to him." she started explaining more visibly, enough to at least picture the whole idea in my head. "Jeez, I'm sorry that happened. What happened after Poppy found you?" I asked, feeling even more worried about her after hearing about getting in a fight with Walden. "She found me just a few minutes after I passed out. I woke up in here. She explained everything but I don't really remember what happened after he punched me. I guess he ran off because he was too scared of getting caught." she put her leg up on the bed.
"Damn. Karma will get to him soon enough." I chuckled, and she agreed. "Yeah, I hope so." she looked away. After a few minutes of silence, she spoke up and looked back at me. "Hey, Y/n. I want to speak to you about those photos on Insta." she said. "Oh, those? What about them?" I asked. "I know this is all probably my fault for taking those photos without your permission. I deleted them by the way, since I felt so bad. Even Barnaby told me it was wrong, but I still didn't delete them. I don't know why I did that, I just.. wanted to apologize to you, Y/n." she smiled.
I smiled back warmly after her apology. "It's no biggie. I'll talk to Wally today, I'm sure he'll forgive you. You have nothing to be sorry about, Sal." I chuckled, and I hugged her showing my respect. "Also, please be careful of Walden when you leave. I really don't want him getting mad at you, especially if it's my fault." she spoke as I backed away from our hug. I stood up, raising eyebrows an at her response. "Why? Why would he be angry at me?" I asked, obviously confused with her statement.
"Well— Wally doesn't take arguments so well. Just be careful with him, don't be too aggressive or too soft." she explained. I nod at her words. "Got it. By the way, have you seen Julie at all? I haven't seen her around the factory all morning, I hope those pictures didn't get seen by her." I narrow my eyes out of the room. "I didn't even know she came to work today." Sally tilted her head. "Whatever, I'm sure she's somewhere. Thanks anyway, Sal. Get better soon." I wave my hand as I leave the room.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll see you tomorrow, neighbor." she chuckled while I left. Poppy stood doing paperwork. I walked over to her. "Hi pop! What are you up to?" I asked, looking down at her paperwork. "Oh! Paperwork I was assigned." she chuckled, looking up at me. "May I ask, how did it go with good old Sally starlet?" she asked. I smiled. "Good. She's as joyful as she was when I met her in that office." Poppy chuckled at my sentence.
"That's good. We can't have Sally grayscale, can we now?" she giggled. I nod still with my smile on my face. "Yep, that wouldn't be Sally starlet." I state. After all of our giggling and conversations are over, I sigh. "Hey, Poppy, do you mind if I ask a personal question about Wally?" I asked, looking down at the desk. "Why, if it's nothing too personal, I'm sure I can answer that question as fast as an squirrel in winter time." she said.
I smile slightly, but it fades. I'm not sure if this question is something to personal or not to ask. "It's about Julie. Sally said Julie and Walden have been in a relationship before, and I wanted to ask if it would be okay if I could get the full story on what happened." I whisper. Her smile fades as quickly as mine did. She flapped her feathers once and cleared her throat.
"Well— you see neighbor, not all relationships are stable enough to stay in place. So I guess we can call Julie and Walden's relationship non-stable. I'm not sure if either of them would be comfortable talking about their marriage, perhaps it's best if we don't speak about what happened." she spoke. I nod once again. "Yeah, that's pretty understandable. I get it. I don't wanna break any boundaries." I say. She smiles. "Thank you, neighbor. I would say you should go ask Julie or Wally, but I don't think either of them are happy at the moment. Maybe you should just leave that to themselves for the time being." she said.

It was a rough afternoon. Wally wasn't in his office for the longest time. I was surprised. I didn't get any work, so I just finished that paperwork about that hybrid. But that only took me ten minutes, and I was pretty frustrated. I searched the entire lab for Walden so I could give this report back to him. But I couldn't find him. I knew he wasn't in the basement. Nobody goes in the basement. I went in the color room, he wasn't there either. I still wasn't sure what the call that yet.
The only place I haven't explored was the grinder station. I've been trying to avoid that place for forever. After that weird vision, I couldn't even get my mind straight. Even if I was hallucinating, I still wouldn't dare to go in that room. But avoiding it just made it worse. So there really is no point.
I open the double doors with an sigh. I look around but instead of it being empty like it was before, it was filled with workers I haven't met yet, and nobody even said anything to me. I went up the stairs to the viewing area. Everything looked as normal as it did before, but the grinder was less bloody. To my surprise, Wally was here. Maybe I wasn't as surprised.
He was talking with some other worker, that was way shorter than his own height. But then again, I don't think I've seen a taller puppet or person than him. "Hey, Mr. Darling, could I speak to ya for a quick second?" I asked, darting to the worker and back at him. he turned his head around immediately once he heard my voice. "What? Is it more important than death?" he asked. I looked at him for a few seconds. "Yes," I reply.
He snapped his head back to the worker who was waiting for a response from him. "You're dismissed." he said, and the worker left without a trace. "Uhm, I have those reports. I got them done earlier but I couldn't find you anywhere, so I came in here." I reached in my folder and got out the report about Lucina.
"Thanks." he grabbed the paper. Kind of aggressively, but I brought my hand back once he grabbed the report. He looked through it, and I was just filling with my thumbs, hoping he was going to say 'Wowzers! This is amazing! I'm going to give you a raise for your outstanding work!' But that's not what happened. "You weren't supposed to sign here." he said. I snapped out of thought. "What? Where?" I asked, waiting for him to show me. "Here." he showed me the report, pointing at the problem. I signed my name both times at the bottom because I didn't look. His name was supposed to be on the right side and my name was supposed to be on the left. "You did this in pen, so I'm going to have to make you do it over." he ripped the paper in half.
I mean, he could've just saved it so I can copy it all down but maybe it was best if I just redid it. "Oh— is it that big of a issue?" I asked looking up at him once he ripped the paper. "Yes," he replied harshly. "Get it done in your free time." he demanded. Then left me standing there, watching him go down the steps.
I sigh, and follow behind him.
