I wasn't expecting to get a text from Poppy. I didn't even know I asked for her phone number in the first place. But here I was staring at the text.
POPPY:
"Neighbor! Please don't tell me you gave Sally any type of alcohol last night!"ME:
"What do you mean? We just went to a bar last night. You're scaring me, Poppy, tell me what's wrong."POPPY:
"Sally— well, not the best with how do I put it? Alcoholic beverages."ME:
"I don't get it, isn't she like in her 20s? Why would she have anything wrong with alcohol? Unless there's some type of medical issue, I don't really understand, wouldn't she have tell me that before hand?"
POPPY: "Just— come to the factory's infirmary, quick, neighbor!"—————————————————————-
I entered the infirmary. I wasn't expecting to come to the factory when it's supposed to be closed. But I was surprised it was open when I entered.
Sally was beyond crazy. If I knew this was going to happen, how I wish I did, I would've never told her— or even asked her if that's in a better vocabulary to go to the bar with me. But I kept those thoughts to myself. Sally was having trouble walking with her drunk self and she had sprinkles on top of her head covering her sun shaped head. I wanted to giggle, but I stared instead.
"Neighbor! I don't know if I can do it any longer, she's been like this all day!" Poppy put her rainbow feathers on right and left of her head. I looked at her and back at drunk lady. I sighed. "Gee gosh, uhm— I wasn't expecting her to be like this. She was fine when I brought her home." I explain, scratching my head trying to remember the last time I've seen Sally so crazy before, same with Poppy. "I-I don't know what to do with her! I have tried giving her some test samples, but she wouldn't even grab it! I've tried settling her down, but she keeps making up these crazy stories about you and Wally!" she yelped.
I was flustered that she had still remembered that tiny little moment between me and Wally. I didn't even know drunk people like her could remember. I would usually forget something the next minute somebody had told me. I turn back to Poppy, whom was on the edge of breaking me and Sally. "Maybe wait it out. She'll eventually fall asleep and wake up as her usual, normal, sunny self." I smile. "No! No she won't, neighbor. Trust me, the tiniest bit of cat nip can bring her to her final stand of stable." Poppy explains, withdrawing her feathers.
"Cat nip? So is everybody here just a cat or are we the normal ones here?" I ask in a state of confusion. "I pray that there is some normal people here." Poppy nods. I say nothing in return. Sooner or later, Sally has just begun her first stage of nonsense. We look at her as she tips over shelves and throws pillows off of the beds. "Oh dear! Not again! I just finished making those beds!" Poppy raised her feathers in the air and ran over. Poppy was way too nice for a situation like this. An situation I would do to help but before I could walk over and at least do something to help so she wasn't by herself sense it is my problem, Wally comes in without noticing my presence.
"Hey Poppy—" he looked up from the paperwork he was looking at. "I DON'T SUPPORT THE GAYS!" Sally immediately yells as she falls to the ground. "Wally! Thank the stars you have arrived. I can't seem to get Sally out of her head at the moment, could you try talking to her?" Poppy asks with hope in her voice while she struggles to get Sally up from the floor. "Yeah, let me just.." as soon as Sally was stood up— Wally curls his knuckles into a fist and punches Sally right in the nose, again.
"History sure does repeats itself, don't it?" I chuckle from a distance. "What the— are you trying to get me another nosebleed? Where am I? Who am I? Am I in the infirmary?" Sally questions while she puts her hands on her nose. "Sally! You're finally you again! I'll take that for now. Let's get you cleaned up." Poppy smiles leading her over to the sink. "You need to grow up, Sal." Wally cleans the blood off of his knuckle with MY lab coat.
I pull my hand away. "The hell?" I say looking up at him. "Anyway, I gotta get back to work. That rat infestation just got worse." he says turning to Poppy. He slowly turns his head back to me. "Why are you here anyway? I swore I lock the doors." he tilts his head. "They were unlocked." I reply. "Oh. Well. Go home then." he walks out of the infirmary, leaving the pile of paperwork by Poppy's desk. I follow him out since Poppy doesn't need my help anymore.
"Wait a minute— how come poppy wasn't angry when you punched Sal?" I asked, trying to catch up with him. "It's not the first time Sally has came to work drunk before." he said, without even turning to me. I would call that some type of talent. I shrug my shoulders. We meet at the entrance, and he unlocks the door with his special key, or pass. The doors unlock, and he opens it for me. "Thanks. You know, if you need help, you should always just ask. If the rat infestation is getting worse by time, I could probably handle it. I'm pretty fine with tiny creatures." I explain.
"Hm, you must be good with yourself." my smile fades once I realize his statement. "I'm serious."
"Fine, I just don't want you to overwork yourself." he says, like he's not making Julie force her time into the factory with the situation. "I- don't think I'm overworking myself at all." I say. "See you tomorrow, assistant." he looks me up and down before turning back to the basement. I sigh. I don't think Walden understood me at all. From my perspective, it's almost like I'm invisible to him. But at least I was going to be doing some help around the factory instead of doing nothing.
The worst part is, something gives me the idea I'm the one to blame.
