Today started a bit early, race day buzzing around. Repping the McLaren merch cap, I paired it with a white lace trimed dress and white Nike air forces. The seats were slowly filling in with people, everywhere started getting crowded. Max and the team were coming a bit later than me and Lando. While Lando was busy doing a pre-race conference, I walked around with a few of the McLaren engineers. They were so sweet to accompany me around. Along the way, I bumped into a few fans, taking pictures with them before reaching the garage.
Inside, the McLaren garage was a hive of activity. Mechanics in their distinctive orange overalls darted around, making last-minute adjustments to the gleaming MCL36 race car. The sound of power tools and conversations in various languages filled the air.
I stood by the entrance, watching the organized chaos with fascination. Amid the whirlwind of activity, I spotted Lando's helmet resting on a workbench. It was a vibrant mix of orange and blue, bearing the unmistakable branding of McLaren. I couldn't help but smile.
As the minutes ticked away, I could feel the anticipation building in the garage. Seeing Lando with a bright smile walking through the tunnel into the garage, he came up to me apologizing for the wait but I definitely wasn't mad about it. We found a quiet corner of the garage, away from the hustle and bustle of the pre-race preparations. While we chatted, he zipped up his race suit getting ready.
"Goodluck Lando", I said. He smiled and gave me a peck on the cheek, my eyes widening. While Lando walked away to his team engineer, I looked around to see if anyone saw that but thankfully the room was busy. Just when I was about to walk away to take a seat at the grandstand, Lando ran back to me grabbing my hand.
"Stay here, please". Mary came up in time, leading me to a small corner where my attention shifted to the different screens that displayed the live feed of the race. Being handed a headphone set with radio, I slipped it on my head to listen to the comms.
As the moment everyone had been waited for arrived, the camera turned to a zoomed in shot of Lando inside his McLaren's cockpit showing his glittering eyes with his helmet on. I couldn't help but smile at the view but the camera then shifted to me, my smile bright. Not looking into the camera, I kept smiling shyly. Instantly after the camera stopped showing me in the big screen, my phone dinged receiving a notification.
>> Max Fewtrell attached a photo
>> Max Fewtrell: Traitor!I laughed at the message, putting my phone away and reminded myself to reply later since the formation lap has started. Lando's race engineer's voice crackled over the team radio, "Lando, the car is ready. Good luck out there. Remember your strategy." Lando his gloved hands gripping the steering wheel. "Copy that, let's do this."
