Chapter 8

Savitar has been through a lot. 

There was a point in life where he really thought nothing would catch him off guard.

Yet, today proved to be the exception.

That should be me, holding your hand

That should be me, making you laugh (yeah)

That should be me, this is so sad

THAT SHOULD BE ME!!

See, the problem wasn't necessarily the singing.

If it could even be called that.

He'd heard goats make a better harmony.

THAT SHOULD BE ME!!

That should be me, feeling your kiss (feeling your kiss)

That should be me, buying you gifts (buying you gifts)

This is so wrong

I can't go on (I can't go on)

'TILL YOU BELIEVE!!

He grimaced. 

The longer the song went on the more he wanted to just self impale himself. He stayed a safe distance away, casually walking over to your bluetooth speaker as he switched it off. His deadpan expression turned to you and you smiled awkwardly, putting down the metal spoon in your hand.

"If you wanted to kill me there are easier ways to do it."

You giggle.

"Come on, it wasn't that bad right?"

He didn't respond.

"Right!?!"

"Don't quit your day job." 

You frowned, raising the spoon again as you began singing again.

"Please end me now."

This was apparently the price you had to pay when you were a villain.

"Well today was fun."

"For one of us." He grumbled.

You just smiled, keeping your eyes on the road.

"I only have a few days of my little vacation left so lets make the most of it. I wanted to visit a distant cousin here in Portland."

"As long as his singing is better than yours I'm fine with it."

He really wasn't going to let that go.

"Anyway, try to be more social. He's a detective so if you act weird he'll do a deep dive. We don't want that."

"Are all your family members in law enforcement?"

"Well I am an officer, so yeah. It's in the gene." You wiggle your eyebrows.

He realized then that there wasn't much that he knew about you personally. The years you both knew each other, he was always fixated on Iris. Although the both of you were close, there was a lot he didn't know. Until now he didn't even know that you couldn't sing. He supposed there were sides about yourself that you hid because of how you felt. Watching the person you love chase someone else was painful. 

Yet you'd done it for years with no complaint.

"So you're starting to feel that hero tingle coming on, is my master plan working?" Your eyes glanced at Savitar who appeared lost in thought.

"You okay over there?"

"I'm fine."

He doesn't sound fine, but you know better than to pry.

"I'll just trust that you're telling the truth." 

You know it annoys him when you do that.

"I've got to stop by a shop close by. They have some of the herbs that might actually help you enjoy our little cross country trip."

"Are we doing drugs now?"

"Ha ha, your humor never ceases to amaze me."

Sarcastic Savitar is better than nothing.

It takes you both a few minutes to grab what you need and head back down the road. Nick has changed houses twice now, so the one you'll be visiting is brand new to you. The second you're at the door you're bouncing on your feet. You hear shuffling on the other side, and when the door opens you have to keep yourself from tackling him.

"(Y/N)!"

It's clear your surprise worked.

"Hey Nick."

He pulls you into a hug and you accept happily. Savitar's hands are deep within his pockets. Nick pulls away.

"I can't believe you're actually here. It's been two years?"

You laugh.

"Just about. I'm showing my friend the sights. We're on a short vacation."

Nick's eyes shift to Savitar. You know he observes the scar, but he says nothing.

"Nice to meet you." Nick says, holding out his hand. Savitar doesn't respond, and you smack his arm. He sends you a frown.

"He's shy."

Nick doesn't fully buy it, his eyes stay focused on Savitar.

"Well come in. I have some company over, I hope that's okay."

"Of course! The more the merrier." You practically skip inside. Nick steps aside, eyes narrowing at Savitar.

"I never got a name." Nick states.

"I didn't give one."

He just walks past him and Nick clenches his jaw.

Another great gathering it appears.
