Odessa woke in Viserys bed for the first time since their first love affair she lay there content knowing this would be her chambers too. She didnt need to hide or sneak around. The kids were already picking out their rooms and deciding upon decorations. Odessa was happy. She didnt think she could be any happier so of course something had to go wrong.
Odessas face pinched as she was headed to the courtyard, her boys were training and she wanted to see them but she felt a sharp pang in her stomach. Her hands flew to her baby bump and she hissed out a breath.
The maester found her by accident and he moved swiftly to her side. He requested guards to come and help Odessa back to her chambers. They helped her to bed and alerted the king while the maester did an exam.
"I'm only a few moons I thought."
"Baby is farther along than expected." The maester remarked. "Do you know who the father is..." he asked cautiously.
"The king." Odessa answered.
"Oh, oh!" He understood. "I would say 5 to 6, probably 6 moons along, but possibly seven the way you are carrying."
"Really?" Odessa questioned touching her stomach.
"Still the king-"
"Yes!" Odessa snapped back.
"I foresee some complications with the birth..." He added gently.
"What complications?" Odessa rasped.
"Ah your grace, I was just tending to the lady odessa." The maester remarked as the door opened.
"What happened?" Viserys demanded moving to Odessa.
"I think it would be best for Lady Odessa and the child to remain bed ridden, I have noticed some discharge from the vaginal region and a bit of blood."
"Blood? Is my baby-"
"It's just a precaution."
"What do you mean?" Viserys questioned.
"The baby... I want as less stress as possible on Odessa's mind and body, to help keep her at ease until the baby comes."
"Or else I could lose my baby? Is that what you are saying?" Odessa whimpered. "I have never had complications before, all my children were perfect, I was singing and dancing in the halls hours before the birth."
"Each pregnancy is different and this is a different man." The maester reminded her. "You are older than you were back then as well." he added gently.
Odessa sighed, she supposed he was right, she didnt want to think about it though. She just figured things would be the same, the same love and caring moons, walks through the woods with her husband beside her. She remembered each and every one of her pregnancies and she didnt know why she didnt take into account that she was older, her body was not as ready to carry another child.
This was a new and difficult situation for her and that the added stress of planning a wedding and becoming queen while pregnant might have been a lot of stress to put on herself.
It wasnt an easy decision to make but Odessa knew she had to make it.
"I want to wait until the baby is born for the wedding." Odessa remarked.
"I can legitimize the babe immediately." Viserys offered.
"Thank you."
"I'm sorry if I put to much stress on you." Viserys countered.
"NO I was stressing myself out. I should have been more careful to begin with." Odessa countered.
"No, you are perfect, I'm happy, you are everything I ever wanted and more." Viserys remarked. "I'm glad to have a chance at another child."
"Me too, mine are so perfect." Odessa agreed, tears pulling at her eyes. "Your Rhaenyra is pretty great too."
Rhaenyra was excited to have siblings, half siblings to be clear, and it was very Targaryen to want your brother. Rhaenyra had developed a crush on Ollivander, he was fun and wild and had her flare for adventure.
She understood why her mother was upset but she also knew that taking a second wife when the first couldnt produce an heir wasnt unheard of. Rhaenyra didnt feel like she was being replaced, Odessa liked Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra got on great with her children.
"OLLI!" Rhaenyra demanding marching towards him. "Be careful! YOu are going to burn your face off!"
"Nonsense." Ollivander countered nonchalantly.
"Where are the dragon maesters?" Rhaenyra questioned trying to settle Syrax.
"I told them to fuck off, I had work to do." Ollivander informed her.
"Ollivander!" Rhaenyra scolded. "Syrax is mine."
"Then take me flying and I will stop bugging Syrax." Ollivander agreed.
"She's not big enough, I can't even fly her yet," Rhaenyra admitted.
"Boring, come on!" Ollivander begged.
"You will fall off!" Rhaenyra corrected.
"A chance I'm willing to take." Ollivander assured.
"It's not a chance I'm willing to take." Rhaenyra corrected. Ollivander chuckled taking a step closer to her. "What? Whats that look for?"
"You like me, I get it, I'm handsome, charming, the total package." Ollivander agreed smugly. Rhaenyra rolled her eyes.
"Liking you less and less." Rhaenyra mused.
"Nah, you like me, you really like me." Ollivander smirked. "Okay, we dont have to fly, but you were supposed to be teaching me, remember? High Valyrian?"
"I remember." Rhaenyra agreed.
"Then lets go." Ollivander agreed. He strut off and Rhaenyra knew she was in for trouble with him yet she followed after him.
"I'm going into town." Orion remarked. "Do you need anything mother?"
"I'm fine, I want you to be careful honey," Odessa begged. "Take cousin Tom or Arthur with you."
"I'm meeting Gendry, I'm fine, he's got some spare bits for my shooter." Orion corrected. "I dont need a babysitter."
"I know you dont but I'm stuck here and I can't look out for you, not that you need it but my heart feels better when I know my babies are safe..." odessa added.
"Playing the sympathy card I see." Orion remarked. Odessa smiled back at him. "Fine, Arthur if he's not already drunk or stoned."
"Thank you honey!" Odessa agreed as the door swung open. Otto held out tea and biscuits for her. she smile taking the tea from him, he rested the plate of biscuits on her stomach.
"Otto, can you try and track down Lia for me, I havent seen her in a while, and although I know she is perfectly fine, she usually comes in to check on me, talk to me, tell me about her most recent find and well, she hasnt. Maybe she's busy or in lessons but-"
"I will find her." Otto assured getting up but the portrait on the wall popped open and Ophelia fell through, she grunted as she dropped.
"Bloody hell." Ophelia muttered getting up and brushing herself off. "Mum!"
"That's interesting." Odessa remarked putting down her tea.
"Theres a hole, a... a..." Otto moved to Ophelia.
"Oh biscuits." Ophelia countered plopping beside Odessa on the bed. "So whats new mama?"
"The hole in the wall for starters." Otto declared.
"Do all the rooms have that?" Odessa questioned.
"I'm still working my through," Ophelia countered pulling out her map and marking a trail which showed where it led to get to Odessa's room.
"We need to have this sealed." Otto demanded.
"Probably for the best." Ophelia admitted leaning into Odessa. "Dont want anyone else sneaking up on mum."
"My little adventurer."
