SMIRA'S POV

My heart is beating so fast right now, "Ouch!" I wince, soothing my small toe which hit the side of the table. The electric wave of pang flooded over my body.

"Will you stop walking like a lost ghost?" Dii's mocking voice made me roll my eyes.

"I'm very nervous Dii, everything is happening in haste and-"

"Shuu" she cooed me. Splashing a wave of calmness over my eerie tornado of self-doubts and overthinking. "You love him right? That's what you told me one week ago, remember?" she asks, raising her eyes. I nodded at her.

When I said yes to the contract marriage to Aayan Sir, he was first taken aback. He tried to reason with me. But then we both decided to just do it. He told me not to let anyone know about this. I promised him

And that's the reason why I couldn't tell Dii. For taking the next step towards our marriage was to tell our respective families. And Dii is the only one who truly understands me.

On the night I came back, Aayan sir dropped me off; I told Dii that the person I had been with for the past one year finally asked me for marriage.

Of course, this is a lie.

I had to make up a story. Listening to my sentence her eyes practically bulge out. She shook me entirely with her river of questions.

At first, she wasn't convinced, but after a rig of lies. She believed it and was convinced to help to tell this to our parents.

"That's it. You love him. He loves you, that's all that matters" Her encouraging voice pulled me back to reality. I gave her my best smile to assure her that I was okay now.

She pulled my cheeks and kissed my head. "You look so beautiful, Cherry. He's lucky to have you," she says. Her smile was bright, her face glowing seeing her sister happy.

Only if all of this was true, dii.

"Come downstairs after you are done. We are waiting." her soothing voice faded with her steps going away from me.

I look in the mirror, taking my dupatta to one side and putting on a small silver bindi.

Today was the day when both sides of families gonna meet and decide on the wedding date. It was Nana's idea. She was discharged after two days. Knowing that me and Aayan sir getting married, it was like the best day for her. She recovered so fast.

When I told my parents about my decision. They just kept looking at me. And that resulted in the rise in temperature, tension, and the thick air of suspense. The house was pin-drop silent, even the walls of the house were stunned and waiting for what was going to happen.
