Fatherly or Friendly?

Thanks so much to Crescent-Moon_Rogers! Just to be clear, this is a modern AU.

"See you after work?"Cress picked up her binder and suitcase.

"Yeah" Thorne took another sip of coffee. "I gotta pick up Zarek from daycare"

"Aw. I think it's sweet you're helping Kate with Zerek. You're so generous" Cress giggled and gave him a quick kiss. "I'll be back by 7."

After she shut the door, Thorne poured himself another cup of coffee. He looked around once. Twice. It got really boring without anyone else here. He let out a long sigh and checked the time.

Only 3 more hours till he has to drive to the daycare, pick up Zarek, pick up Cress shortly after, leave Zarek at Kate's, and then is the exhausting part. Listening to Cress ramble about how everyone has kids but them.

It's not that Thorne didn't want a child. In fact, he really wished for one. The problem was that he wasn't sure he was ready. Ready for such responsibility and exhaustion. His past. His past being a criminal, player, all in all, a bad guy, just kept him back.

Thorne hadn't realized he's been sleeping for about three hours. He quickly got up from the couch and ran to the car. Then, he realized he wasn't wearing any shoes. "Spades"

After making sure everything was okay, he got in his car and drove off to the daycare as fast as possible. It was actually really far and he would be very lucky if getting there in time.

"Um. Hello?" Thorne was, fortunately, on time. "I'm here for Zarek?"

"I'm sorry but you're not Kate." The woman laughed. "or Bruce"

Throne sighed. "Kate asked me to pick him up. Carswell Thorne"

The woman glared at him and let out a low laugh. She checked over some papers on her desk. "Mm. I don't believe it."

He rolled his eyes and dialed Kate's number.

"Yeah?"

"Kate, they don't believe me"

"Ugh. Can you please get Faezie on the phone."

"Who's Faezie?"

"I'm Faezie" The woman grunted and grabbed his phone."Kate?"

"Yes it's me, Kate Fallow. Look, I'm at work and so is Bruce. Thorne is a really really good family friend. Just please give him Zarek."

"Alright" Faezie, once again, gave Throne a skeptical look. Thorne took his phone back and hung up. "Follow me, Mr. Thorne"

Faezie ushered him into a room where he saw Zarek. "Ah there you are, peanut butter!"

"Uncle Thorne!" Zarek, the cute 5 year old boy, ran up and hugged him.

"See you tomorrow, Zarek" Faezie waved her goodbye. "Goodbye, Mr. Thorne"

"Hey you too-" Just as he waved his goodbye he tripped over a toy car. The kids began laughing and laughing. He got up quickly and tensed. Though there was one kid crying. Throne picked up the toy car and examined it. One wheel fell off and that was when Thorne realized this toy car was the crying child's. He put the wheel on carefully and handed him the toy car.

The kid's eyes lit up and took the toy. He smiled when he saw it repaired. "Thank you!"

Thorne smiled. When he turned around there was a little girl in his way.

"Excuse me?" The little girl handed him her teddy bear. "It's arm ripped. Can you fix it?" And so he did. He quickly gave it a little sow with a loose string from his shirt and a pin he found at a table. Cress had showed him how to sow when his sweater ripped. Oh cress. Thorne smiled at himself. If only she were here. Oh wait she is. Thorne's eyes widened when he realized Cress was standing right in front of him.

"Cress?"

"Thorne! You were suppost to pick me up 10 minutes ago!"

"Oh" Thorne tensed up again. "Sorry?"

"Why are you still here anyway?"

Faezie handed Throne a book. "He fixed a toy car and a teddy bear for the kids...and now he insisted in story time."

"Um Yeah." Throne worded thanks to Faezie and sat on a big chair. Soon, all the kids were surrounding him. And so he began to read the book. Sometimes he paused to interact with the kids.

"Her hair was so long, people could climb on it to reach the top of a tower!"

The kids listened in amazement to the story of Rapunzel. When he was done, the kids applauded and hugged Thorne excitedly.

"He should work here" A mom nudged Faezie. "He's awesome with the kids"

"That he is" Faezie smiled.

"Alright kids! I gotta go" Throne grabbed Zarek by the hand and the kids were disappointed,

"Zarek is so lucky, mom! He's friends with Mr. Thorne" One of the kids said.

"Mr. Throne sounds like a great babysitter. Can we hire him?"

"Zarek surely is never bored with him around!"

"Why can't Jean be like that?"

The comments made Thorne smile. Even Cress.

"Kids love you" Cress laughed.

"I guess they do" Thorne joined in.

"It's like you're a natural with them. Fixing toys, story time. They seriously love you"

"Sure feels good"

"Wouldn't it feel better if one of them actually called you Dad?"

Here we go again. Thorne stayed silent.

"Thorne! I don't see why you don't want to be dad yet! I know we have to agree on this situation but I really want a child, Thorne. To sing to them, tell them stories, play games! I want a kid and I know you do to. You're just afraid to admit it."

"Cress-"

"I know I know we have to-"

"Cress?-"

" A lot of responsibility and what not-"

"Cress!"

"What?"

"Let's have a baby"

"I'm sorry you don't agree-" Cress tensed. "what?"

"I want to be dad, Cress" Thorne replied. It was time to let go of the past and move on. He wanted a baby, she wanted a baby. It's too easy.

"You-you do?" Cress smiled.

"Yes!" Thorne gave her a long and swoon-worthy kiss. "Tonight?"

"Tonight" Cress gave him another kiss. "But wait"

"What?"

"We need to get Zarek home! Kate must be worried."

Thorne checked his phone and as expected, missed calls and texts from Kate. "Let's get you home, buddy" He picked up Zarek and carried him to the car. Cress wasn't rambling about how she wanted  a baby, now. She was rambling about what gender it would be and the nursery decor.

"Thank you so much for picking up Zarek, guys" Kate hugged both of them. "Wanna go inside for a drink?"

"Actually we have some plans of our own" Cress smirked. "We finally agreed to have a baby!"

"Oh stars! Thats's wonderful. I'm so happy for you guys"

"Well we have to get moving"

"You guys have fun!"

At home, Thorne sat down on the bed. "You know getting pregnant isnt that easy, right?"

"We'll try a few times. There's always the doctor's option."

"Well yeah, but this is way more fun" Thorne laughed and kissed her...
