Part 1 ~ modern AU ~ continuation of "Fatherly or Friendly" ~

Thorne tried his best to act mature and sophisticated as the gates to the White House opened for him. He strode down the huge front yard and waited for the guards to open the main entrance. For him, entering the President's home was no biggie, given that the President was one of his best friends.

As soon as he was in and the doors closed, Thorne darted towards the festivity halls. He was stopped by The Vice President, Torin, who was in the middle of his daily walks around the place. His facial expression was a mix of eagerness and concern. "Is Cress with you?"

Thorne shook his head and wiped the sweat on his brow. "I came to check in. Cress just texted me - she said she'll be here in a few minutes."

Torin sighed. "Why would you tell her to meet us here. You could've bought us some time. And I thought she got out at 6?"

"Her boss sent her home. He said it was too risky for her to be standing for so long on account of her being close to her due date."

The Vice President groaned and buried his face in his hands. He looked up after a second and grimaced. "Well? Aren't you going to help them?" he gestured to the festivity halls. Thorne gave a slow oh and left Torin in the main corridors as he hurried towards it.

"It's about time." Scarlet muttered when Thorne entered the huge festivity quarters. The President and the First Lady stepped out and smiled.

"You made it! Hey, just a few more things and you can tell Cress to meet us here while we rest for a while." said Cinder.

"Yeah." Kai gave a weak laugh. "we've been decorating for the whole day. You'd think it'd take about an hour but when decorating this  room," He whistled.

"Eh," Thorne hesitated. "Well, I kinda... already told her...and she's on her way."

"What?!"  Wolf dropped the bouquet of flowers he was carrying to its vase on the dining table.

"But," Cinder began. "The quarters aren't fully decorated! The cake hasn't been brought up! We haven't even changed!" She looked down at her pants and sneakers. Then pointed at the huge table in the middle of the room. "No presents! Because the guests haven't even arrived yet!"

"Way to go, Thorne." Scarlet sighed exasperatedly. "We need to be quick." Scowling at the guards in the hallway, she added, "Get to work, will you?"

With that, the guards began adorning the rest of the room at a quick pace. Scarlet is actually pretty respected in here, Thorne realized.

Ding! Thorne fished his phone out of his pocket to check the text - Cress. "Spades." he murmured as he read.

'Hey! I'm almost there! Can't wait to hear the big news you have - and that it had to be in Kai and Cinder's home? haha Cya soon!'

"Cress says she's almost here"

The doors to the festivity halls opened and the Artemesian Royal couple walked in, in between 4 guards. The couple's personal guards carried 6 huge shopping bags with little ribbons tied into bows on the handles. When they were in, the doors closed.

"Friends!" Winter freed her hands from Jacin's to clap. "Oh we simply can't wait to celebrate Cress's pregnancy! Congratulations, Carswell."

"Heh." Thorne would've said something else had he not been glancing at the door expecting it to open for Cress.
