A Good Queen

"Jacin," Winter giggled. "It's your break, silly. Come sit!" She patted the spot on the chair next to her.

Jacin gave her a half smile. "Can't. Gotta make sure the antidote haul makes it to Earth." He glanced at his port before proceeding to stare at the spaceships heading to Earth with the antidotes.

"I've heard there's been less letumosis outbreaks." Winter tapped her fingers on her knees.

"You heard right, princess." he looked at his port again and nodded. "They're in."

"Can you sit now?" Winter gestured to the empty seat next to her.

Jacin chuckled and walked towards her. "Whatever you say." He took a seat and Winter took out her little box of candies. When she took a sour apple petite - her favorite - she offered Jacin one.

Both sat in silence eating the delicious candy Winter adored. She lifted her hand to the back of her neck where the biolectrical security system was installed not too long ago. "Hey, Jacin?"

"Yeah?"

"I never got to properly thank you for this security system." Jacin tilted his head. Winter went on. "I'm glad you got Selene to respect what I'm doing and hand over it."

"No problem." Jacin nodded. "How are you holding up?"

"Well there's certainly no more blood to see." She laughed. "Seeing and feeling other things seem strange now. I think I'm good."

"That's great." Jacin smiled.

The silence dragged on for a while.

"We haven't really spoken about," Winter hesitated. "What happened with Selene and my stepmother..."

"What's there to talk about?"

"Well I kinda expect Selene to be queen after this."

"She said you'd make a better queen."

"And so you agree?"

Jacin sighed. "Don't overthink it, trouble. You're going to be a better queen than Levana." He laughed. "Aces. Way better."

Winter scoffed. "Anyone can be a better queen than her."

Gaping, Jacin slowly turned to face her. "Was that your first insult?"

She shook her head with wide eyes. "No! It can't be."

Jacin laughed and stood up. "Im going to check in with the world leaders to see if they got their hauls. Stay pretty." He walked off into the corridors.

Winter was glad she couldn't see her blush. He always made her feel this way. Biolectrical security system or not, she always had that warm and fuzzy feeling when he was close. And when he complimented her like that - it drove her crazy. Bad choice of words, she thought to herself.

He said he loved her once. When he was sent to kill her. He let her escape with the others because he didn't have the heart to kill his princess. He loved her. Jacin was asked to rule by Winter's side but he refused, he would rather be promoted to Thaumaturge - which he did.

Winter slowly walked down the dungeons next to her personal guards, Jiye and Salim. She strolled down till she reached Aimery's cell. He was leaning against the rocky wall fiddling his thumbs.
