Part Seven: Battle for Alcasia

In another part of Alcasia, President Acres who had proceeded into the large bunker constructed beneath the twenty story Presidental Building was joined by Prime Minister Jack Vellas and Alcasian Military Chief of Staff Commander Mark Terrans.

“As of this moment, the Alcasian Federal Military is likely planning targets to attack from orbit such as scanner facilities, landing platforms, communication facilities, and command and control centers.” Commander Mark Terrans commented. “We should get our shuutles and transports airborne while we can.”

Prime Minister Vellas agreed with Commander Terrans and began to consider the possibility of evacuating the 500 Alcasian Senators and their families if the Alcasian Federal Military gained control of the planet.

On the surface of Alcasia, thousands of Alcasian Military personnel stationed at almost three hundred bases began to deploy throughout Alcasia City in preparation for a ground assault by Alcasian Federal Military Infantry Assault Groups that could land in a few hours time with equipment and support personnel.

Meanwhile in that time, the Alcasian Military Infantry Assault Groups and Aerial Assault Groups currently on Alcasia would do everything in their power to hold off the Alcasian Federal Military attack.

By then, Brigadier General Tom Widan, Colonel Brians, Admiral Kerrs, Captain Wisens, Captain Gregory Thomas, and the other twenty-four Amderestan Military officers and enlisted personnel had relocated to nearby an apartment complex.

“Right now, the Alcasians are out there in the streets preparing for an attack by the Alcasian Federal Military.” Colonel Brians commented. “Meanwhile we are just supposed to sit by and do nothing.”

“Colonel, you’re frustated so am I.” Brigadier General Widans responded. “We were sent here to assess the situation, not become involved in someone’s war.”

A few minutes later, a number of explosions nearby were felt by the Alcasians who resided in the apartment complex several blocks from the government district. Brigadier General Tom Widan and the rest of his Combat Advisor Team had taken up residence in an apartment on the fifteen floor.

“Sir, you realize if the Alcasian Communication Relay Transmission Stations are taken out, we’ll have no way of contacting Crescrent and Taronia.” Captain Wisens commented to Brigadier General Widan who stood out on the balcony and looked at the plumes of black smoke rise in the air.

Brigadier General Widans came back inside a minute or so later and sat down at the VACS situated in the apartment’s common room. After a minute, he managed to get a VACS transmission with Taronia Region Amderestan Military Field Command Headquarters, and the Executive Building on Crescent. Images of President Brians, AMCOS Commander Brian Jacobs, Commander Jonathan Lencon and Commander Timothy Forrester were all displayed on the screen.

“Right now, as I speak the Alcasian Federal Military has begun orbital attacks against scanner installations and communication facilities here on Alcasia.” Brigadier General Tom Widan said to President Brians, Amderestan Military Chief of Staff Brian Jacobs, Commander Jonathan Lencon and Commander Timothy Forrester.

“Remember your orders, do not engage the Alcasian Federal Military forces if they begin a ground assault unless they attack you and your men.” Commander Brian Jacobs responded.

 “Understood, sir.” Brigadier General Tom Widan commented. “I’m still working on my assessment of the Alcasian Republic’s Military situation. Right now, it seems that the Alcasian Federal Military forces are beginning to conduct joint operations alongside the Eastern Group Alliance Military forces in the area.”

Over the next several hours, the Alcasian Federal Military starships, cruisers and destroyers in orbit above Alcasia continued their attacks against a number of scanners and communication installations on Alcasia’s surface. While that went on, several dozen Alcasian Federal Military Infantry Assault Groups loaded up on troop transports and headed for the surface.

At the bunker underneath the Presidential Building, Alcasian Military Chief of Staff Commander Mark Terrans look at the real-time tactical display and noticed the hundreds of troop transports enter the upper atmosphere.

Almost immediately, Commander Terrans activated a secured Video Audio Communication Screen transmission and the image of Commander Franks appeared on the screen. “Franks, I want those shuttles and transports in the air, now.”

Over the next few minutes at the hundreds of Alcasian Military Landing Platforms, ground crews quickly prepared a large number of Shuttles and troop transports for a number of sorties. Shortly after, Alcasian Military shuttles and troop transports became airborne and proceeded to launch attacks against the Alcasian Federal Military troop transports which had entered Alcasia’s upper atmosphere.

From the balcony attached to Brigadier General Tom Widan’s apartment on the fifteen floor, Captain Wisens stood out on the balcony and watched as the Alcasian Military shuttles and transports opened fire on the Alcasian Federal Military troop transports. Hundreds of Alcasian Federal Military and Alcasian Military vessels battled for the next few hours in the air.

However a few Alcasian Federal Military troop transports managed to land near Alcasia City’s suburbs in the southern part of the large metropolitan city which covered a large area of Alcasia’s surface and began their building-by-building assault against the Alcasian Military forces.

“Those explosions are getting closer.” Colonel Brians noted to himself, Brigadier General Tom Widan, Captain Wisens, Colonel Brians, Admiral Kerrs, Captain Gregory Thomas, and the other Amderestan Military personnel currently in the apartment.

“What the hell was that!?” Admiral Kerrs as a very loud explosion was heard and felt by everyone in the apartment. Brigadier General Tom Widan went out onto the rear balcony and looked up at the upper floors of the apartment building.

“Look’s like either an Alcasian Federal Military or Alcasian Military shuttle or transport impacted the floors above us.” Brigadier General Tom Widan called out to the others. “Everything above the sixteenth floor is gone, but I suggest we evacuate the building just in case.”

“In case of what, a collapse?” One of the  Amderestan Military Officers in the CAP inquired as a damaged troop transport crashed into nearby building and exploded.

Around the same time, Colonel Brians, Captain Wisens, Colonel Brians, Admiral Kerrs, Captain Gregory Thomas, and five other Amderestan Military officers began their trek to the ground floor via the stairwell. Brigadier General Widan came back inside the apartment and gathered the others together.

“Gentlemen, this apartment complex has sustained damage to the seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentith floors and you may have heard another transport slam into another building.” Brigadier General Tom Widan told the other twenty Amderestan Military officers and enlisted. “Grab your duffel bags and head down the stairwell to the ground floor.”

The moment he said this, each of the twenty Amderestan Military officers and enlisted packed up their duffel bags and made their way to the stairwell and started their climb down to ground level. By this point, several Alcasian families who also resided in the apartment complex began to evacuate as well.

Once they were outside of the apartment complex, Brigadier General Tom Widans, Colonel Brians, Captain Wisens, Admiral Kerrs, Captain Gregory Thomas, and the other twenty Amderestan Military officers and enlisted removed their Santurian T-900 blaster pistols and loaded power packs into each one.

“Well guys, we might have to defend ourselves.” Brigadier General Tom Widans told the others as they slipped into an alley which ran behind several apartment complexes in Alcasia City.
