John 15:16
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
There is an interesting connection of being fruit to salvation in scripture. In fact, Jesus uses the idea of fruit and agriculture many times to express complex ideas to his followers. Knowing them by their fruit, and bearing good fruit are ideas that scripture speaks if several times. It is the idea that good trees, Christians, will bear good fruit. It is by the fact that evidence is provided that they are truly Christian. One of the many mistakes that are made is the idea of fruit as one of needing to bear good fruit, works, to be saved. They misunderstand the idea that Christ was trying to express. It is not the fruit that determines is a tree is good. It is the soil, the source of nutrients. If a tree is planted in good soil, it will in effect bear good fruit. The fruit is simply the evidence that the tree had been planted in right soil. How is the fruit in your life? It is good, bad, or is there little fruit to begin with? Understand, Christ doesn't require there be a plentiful harvest, but remember, if you allow the vineyard keeper to provide nutrients through the milk of the Word, you will see the rewards. If you reap what you sow, how much greater will the fruit of God be when His harvest comes?
