Chapter 34

"Rinni!"

The said teen opened her eyes in shock as she quickly sat up, gasping for air as she frantically looked around her surroundings. Her breath quickened, her eyes darting around the wooden walls and roof. This wasn't the last place she remembered. She remembered being outside, fighting, grimm flying and attacking, hearing screams. She left a weight on her shoulder, causing her to look. Her brown eyes met with teary icy blue ones as her breathing slowly relaxed.

"M-Mom?" Rinni asked shakingly

The female snow leopard faunus smiled faintly before nodding, bringing her daughter, Rinni Bellereve, into a hug. As Kiona Fiore Bellereved hugged her daughter, Rinni's memories came crashing back to her.

"Mom, what happened? Where are my teammates?" Rinni's question was only met with silence and a tighter hold

"Mom, tell me what-" she was cut off

She had initially tried to push away her mother with her left hand but it didn't work. She gasped as she slowly turned to look.

"Rinni no, please no" Kiona begged as she tried her child to stop looking

The effort was in vain as the teen began hyperventilating upon seeing her left arm missing. She quickly pulled away her blanket to see if there was any more damage and she saw her right leg was missing from above the knee. Kiona yelled for her husband, John Aiden Scarlet-Bellereve, as Rinni continued to become worse. Due to the shock, the leader of Team RVER fainted.

It was already dark when she awoke, feeling like it was a dream. Seeing the wooden roof, she knew better, so she turned to her left, seeing her arm gone. She couldn't believe it but needed answers, and needed them now, and she knew where to get them. Rinni noticed a wheelchair next to her bed so she did her best to get on it, only to fail causing a large thud. Her siblings were the first ones to hear it, rushing to her room before calling for help from their parents and grandfather.

They tried to help her but the teen refused their help, saying that she could do it, and she did after some effort and countless arguments in trying to do things on her own. She breathed heavily before turning to her grandfather, who immediately knew what his eldest granddaughter wanted with just one look. Borra Storm Bellereve told Rinni everything, how Beacon fell, that Pyrrha Nikos was now dead, and how they had no news about her teammates. He also told her that doctors couldn't save her left arm and right leg due to her bones being completely shattered and her limbs barely hanging on to some muscles and tendons. Tears began flowing down from the teen's brown eyes as her siblings hugged their sister. Her parents wanted to comfort her but Borra stopped them saying that she doesn't need them right now.

Time passed as Rinni grieved, her night terrors would happen so often that it worried her family, sadly Yebe and Lyn had to leave for Sanctum not long after. Borra would often catch his eldest granddaughter staring off as if she was stuck in her own head. He also noticed that certain things would trigger a panic attack. This not only worried him but Rinni's parents as well. They eventually forced the ravennette to attend therapy from a psychiatrist, in hopes of making it better for her. Rinni's psychiatrist had prescribed her some medication to help with her mental health, and her family made sure that she took her medication.

Soon enough a month had gone by and her grandfather had presented her advanced robotic prosthetic limbs, courtesy of Doctor Pietro Polendina at the request of the said older faunus. Of course, her semblance was accounted for and her grandfather sent some of her blood to his old colleague. Despite having access to her new limbs, she refused any begging from her parents to put it on.
