"Fine," I muttered darkly. "I'll go out with you."

Leaven released my arm and moved around to face me, smiling ear to ear. By sheer force of habit, I rolled my eyes at how giddy he looked.

"You won't regret this," he promised, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

"Trust me when I say that I already do," I mumbled, and continued, "But if I'm really going out with you, I have some rules that you need to follow." Leaven nodded, waiting for my conditions. "One: tell no one that we are going out. Not even your family." I paused to let it sink in. "Two: don't take me on a romantic date. I hate dates that -"

"I know your rules of dating; I dated you three years ago." He interrupted softly. "Look, it'll be just like old times."

I shook my head. "That's where you're wrong, Leaven. I'm not the same girl I was back then. This is only one date, and only to get answers about Heaven's secret. After that? Well, I don't care if you fall off of a bridge and die."

"Such harsh words from such a beautiful face," he told me, pouting dramatically.

"Shut it, Leaven. It's the truth."

"That's what you say ... for now." With a devious smile, he walked away, head held high.

My morning went by quickly and lunch came sooner than I thought it would.

When I entered the lunchroom, countless heads turned and stared. I gulped and played with the hem of my shirt, feeling uncomfortable. I slowly backed out of the lunchroom, still feeling the weight of their eyes. Suddenly, a hand grabbed mine and pulled me fully into the hall.

"What the hell, Seven?" I asked, in shock.

He didn't respond, instead focusing on dragging me down the halls to an empty classroom. Once there, he released me and glared. "Annabelle," he enunciated slowly, as though I couldn't understand him. "Why?" His voice was low and rich with anger.

"Why what?" I asked, utterly confused. What had I done to anger him?

"Why are you going out with Leaven?" He said through gritted teeth, rubbing his forehead.

My heart sank. I told that jerk to keep his mouth shut!

I paused, unsure what to tell Seven. The truth? Of course not, that was ridiculous.

A lie? Okay, like what? I was clueless. In the end, I decided to act like I had no idea what he was telling me.
