It didn't surprise me, to be honest, that I had been out for a solid three days. Of course when my dad showed up to the hospital he acted like I'd died and somehow came back to life.

Chuckling at the memory, I ran my hands through my hair once more. Carollena had just informed me moments ago that some police officers were going to be here soon to question me. She just left the hospital room to go get her something to drink from a vending machine, leaving me in the room cloaked in silence.

The door suddenly opened and I saw a tall man walk in. "Hello Miss, my name is David Henry," the police officer said as he took off his black hat. He tucked it under his arm and gave me a warm smile. Reaching my hospital bed he looked at me with his deep green eyes. "My friend, Leaven, told me that you were his girlfriend. I made sure I was put on your case. I like to help Leaven anyway I can ... anyways, my partner Gavin is outside talking to your friend, Carollena."

"Your friends with Leaven?" I inquired before nervously biting my lip.

Smirking, David nodded. "Yes, he is a dear college buddy of mine. I know everything about him, we are very close. And like I said before, I'm here to help him, any way I can." I could hear the threat behind his voice and his eyes said it all. The police officer next to me was a 'cleaner'. He knew of Leaven's crimes but was willing to make them not come to light. I knew then and there that Mr. Henry must have helped cover up Leaven's murder that Seven told me about.

Wiggling a little in the bed, I wondered if I had the right to ask for another police officer to take my case. Sighing, I knew it was no use. Leaven was going to get away with what he did to me.

"So, Annabelle, tell me what happened," David egged as he pulled up at blue recliner chair that was about ten feet to the right of my bed.

"I don't remember," I blurted out as falsehood laced my soft voice.

David placed his hat on a wooden table next to me. He sighed and shook his head. "Now, now Anna, the doctors have proven that your memory is just fine. So, tell me, what happened because when we go to trial with your case an 'I don't remember' will not help put the kid that did this to you behind bars."

"Kid? Who said it was a kid?" I quizzed.

David smiled, "we found hand prints all over your house. They belong to John Ekes, a seventeen-year-old boy that lives a few houses down from yours."

I growled as I thought about how that boy in no way did this. He was an honor roll kid, with a bright future ahead of him. This was Leaven's fault, not John's. "John didn't do it!"

"How would you know, you can't remember?"

"Oh, I remember. That is a problem, isn't it? You know, you should tell Leaven that next time he should kill me!"

David sighed and looked at me as if I had said something funny. "Anyways, we need to get your story, so tell me. Did John just kick the door in or did he ring the doorbell first."

"He didn't do anything-"

"He rang the doorbell, good that supports his finger prints being on the doorbell. Now, when he stormed in the house, where were you?"

"I was in the woods and Leaven was beating me."

"You were in the bedroom, okay," David said as he pulled out a small notepad and a pen from his pocket. "What did you did when you heard him?"

"I begged Leaven to let go of me."

"So, you are saying John threw the first punch."

"Yes, Leaven hit me first, even slapped me around a few times."

"I really like how corruptive you are being. Leaven will be so happy to hear how you are doing when he gets back from London. You know he wanted me to tell you that he is sorry that he will not be able to make it back in a week like planned. He said his trip got extended, much against his will. But, what could he do, it is a very important business meeting. He'd thought you were going to be knocked out much longer than three days, you see..."

"How can you sit there and act so calm knowing your best friend is a murder and an abuser. I will make sure you and him are behind bars! Mark my words!" I hissed.

Standing up, David towered over me. "I wouldn't do that, Annabelle. My family practically owns this town. I will not so easily be arrested and neither will Leaven. You see he is very good friends with my family, hell they consider him one of us. So, try and get us thrown in jail, I dare you. Just know that you will be in a white jacket before we even see a glimpse of a cell." Placing his hat back on his head, He tilted the rim and smiled. "Have a good day Ma'am."

David started to walk toward the door with certain pride in his step. Glaring holes in the back of him, I grunted. "How do you sleep at night?"

Looking over his shoulder he smirked. "Well, with my eyes closed, of course." With that he strolled out of the room.

Carollena walked in the room a few minutes later with a smile. "They caught him, it was the boy a few doors down. I was so surprised," she stated. Looking at me, her joyful face melted. "What is wrong? Aren't you happy?"

"Ecstatic," I replied with a fake content voice.

Carollena studied me for a second before nodding. "Okay ... hey, listen, the doctors said that in a day or so you can leave. Heaven and I have decided, along with your dad who agrees. That maybe we should take the road trip right when you get out. We know that you going home will be traumatic ... We've called your work and they are giving you week off and then after this week is fall break. So we can spend a full two weeks at the cabin. By the time we get back your father said we he will have the house back in order. How does that sound?"

I fiddled with the white blanket that was sprawled out over me. My eyes studied the fine stitching for a moment before I broke out in a nod. "Yeah, that sounds great..."
