The sun felt different, the air smelled cleaner and my senses seemed like they were in overdrive. I knew it was all because I had been in the hospital for about a week and haven't experienced the outside world in what seemed like forever.
To be honest if I had stayed one more day in that small, cramped hospital room, I would have gone crazy. I was just fortunate enough to have an awesome friend like Carollena who stayed by my side and sneaked in some food for me so that I would not have to eat the horrible food that they were trying to feed me.
Sticking my head up a little, the winds blew in my face and my hair became disheveled. Yet, I had no cares in the world. I was finally free from that hospital and cruising down a highway in the backseat of a convertible.
"I think she likes your car," Carollena yelled over to Heaven in the driver's seat.
Glancing over at her girlfriend, Heaven smiled. "Who doesn't?" She questioned before focusing back on the road that we had been driving down for a good hour and a half.
I sat in the white leather seat and continued to smile wildly.
I needed this, a trip, a getaway. I knew if I went home, that I would just allow myself to over think everything and worry about Leaven.
His name made me freeze in spot. I'd no idea what I was going to do, Leaven was most defiantly going to kill me that is if I didn't listen to him. Maybe I should listen to him, not fight back. Then, maybe we won't have a problem, and possibly he won't hurt me.
I couldn't tell anyone, I knew that now. The police were corrupted and anyone that I chose to tell was just going to get hurt.
Heaven suddenly pulled into a gas station that was on the side of the road. "Need gas, you guys can go in a get some snacks if ya want."
Carollena got out and moved her seat forward so I could get out too.
Once I exited the car, I stretched only to have my stomach and neck started to feel slightly sore. I winced and then relaxed.
"How about we get you a coke and you can take a pain pill?" Carollena suggested.
Giving a nod as I figured that it was about time to take my pain medicine. Walking in the gas station I smelt the foul stench of bleach. I cringed for the fact that that smell reminded me of the hospital.
"Let's make this quick," I pleaded.
Nodding, Carollena agreed. "Yeah, because that cashier is a creep," she whispered.
I looked over at the pimple faced teen that was behind the register staring at us with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and followed her to the back were the drinks are. It took my a few seconds to find where the cokes where. But once I got one, I went over to Carollena who was staring at the glass door of the refrigerator.
"Will you just pick?" I asked Carollena.
"I can't decide. I mean I want a Dr. Pepper, but then again a strawberry Sobe sounds good too." Sighing, she opened the cooler door and grabbed both a Dr. Pepper and a Sobe. "Fine, I am getting both."
"Thank you!" I praised.
Carollena glared at me and then we walked down an aisle. "I am thinking about getting some chips, wanna get any?" She questioned as her eyes danced over the array of chips.
"No, I am good," I spoke as I awaited for her to pick.
"Alrighy then," she muttered before grabbing a random bag.
After arguing for a few minutes on who was going to pay, Carollena finally told me that if I paid, I was to sleep in the woods. In the end she won and paid for everything.
"I am going to the car," I told her as the cashier started to bag our drinks. I strolled out the gas station only to walk into someone in the process.
"Whoa," a male's voice said as they gripped my shoulders to balance me. Looking up I saw dark green eyes and a smirk on the man's face.
"D-David," I barely spat out.
"Be careful Miss, these areas are dangerous. Watch where you are going," he told me with a wink before walking in the gas station.
"Who was that?" Carollena asked with a mouthful of Doritos.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Have no idea," I lied as we walked to the car.
Upon hitting the open road once again, I felt myself being more and more nervous.
How the hell was I going to get out of this web with Leaven?
Seven wasn't even an option now, especially since he has been ignoring me.
I inhaled deeply at that thought. I'd no idea what I had done to him, but after the night I woke up, I haven't seen him since. It was as if he was avoiding me for something I did, yet, I just didn't know what I could have done.
Perhaps it is better that way that he stays away from me. I can't have him getting hurt because I love him too much to see him get in trouble because of me.
I couldn't help but grip the hem of my jacket sleeve as Heaven turned on a dirt road. I had full knowledge that this road led to the cabin but my body couldn't help but start to shake like a leaf on a windy autumn day.
Clenching my eyes closed, I tried with all my will power to suppress the thoughts of Leaven driving down a similar dirt road.
"Annabelle! Anna! Heaven! Stop the car!" Carollena shouted. I felt the car jerk forward and I opened my eyes wide.
"No!" I suddenly called out.
Both Carollena and Heaven looked at me with confused faces. "What is the matter Anna?" Carollena asked.
I looked around us to see trees lined up on the edge of the road we were on. I shuttered at the fact that this might not have been such a good idea. The woods are only going to remind me of him and what he did.
"Anna, are you okay?" Heaven asked as she lifted her 80s vintage sunglasses from her eyes. Staring at me with her warm blue eyes, she sighed. We looked at each other like we were having a secret mind conversation. "I'm sorry he did this to you," Heaven breathed. "Seven will fix it, I promise."
"What are you talking about?" Carollena asked. Heaven looked at her girlfriend and shook her head.
"Nothing ...We need to get to the cabin..." she said as she looked away from me and put the car back in drive.
"Why? What is the rush?"
"My phone is about to die and I need to make a call," Heaven replied as she started to race down the unpaved road. It wasn't long before the convertible pulled up to a small wood cabin that laid in the middle of the thick forest. I stayed in my seat as Heaven and Carollena got out.
"Are you coming in?" Carollena asked me.
"I will in a minute," I told her. Nodding she followed Heaven to the front door.
Heaven lifted the welcome mat that was in front of the door and grabbed a key that was under in. With lighting speed she unlocked the door and dashed inside. I knew that she was going to call Seven, and that scared me. I really, really didn't want any of them getting involved!
Growling, but to myself, I leaned my head back. Looking up, I saw the green cover of trees. Tears streamed down my face. Leaven was in my head ... he was making me scared of everything. "Is that what you want, for me to fear life? ... Because if so, you've won that battle, but I will not let you win this war..."
