What a Reward

All todays mission was supposed to look like was get to wipe out a Hyperion base in the middle of nowhere, grab loot, and kick ass. Just how a regular mission is supposed to go right?

But noooooo.

It had to be way more complicated than that. Many other things had decided to show up and wreck your perfect strategies. First it was rakks who blew your cover trying to get into the building, then that commotion caused Hyperion soldiers to come your way. Then that caused skags to chase after you!

I don't understand why I couldn't just have a mission go without any setbacks. Yes, it meant more loot for more enemies I kill, but it's tiring, and it wastes more ammo.

This loot better be worth it.

As I finished wiping out the base, I start to scavenge around for that loot. After a few minutes of searching and finding nothing, it lead me to wonder if maybe it was hidden. I started to kick my feet around in the sand, and look for secret places a chest may be.

Nothing.

"God fucking damn it." I say under my breath. I eventually sit down on a crate to take a break. A few moments were spent thinking something along the lines of "if I were a chest filled with rare loot, where would I be?"

I'm dragged out of my thoughts when I hear a beeping noise. I panicked a moment, thinking it was a bomb, and moved from the general area.

Time passed as the beeping noise continued. That's oddly too long to be a bomb, so I opted that out of the question. I look for the source of the beeping noise, and find it on a dead soldier. I pick up the device where the beeping had came from. It wasn't an ECHO. It was too small and impractical for that.

I looked the device over for something to press, and click on a little button on the side. A voice speaks from the one side.
"Hey this is your kernel speaking. We've got recent news on that late shipment and Handsome Jack isn't too happy. You need to order your team to find it within the next week or else-" the man's voice is cut off, sounding like he's being choked.
"Listen cupcake. I need that chest shipped to Helios now. I don't care what your little boss says about a week or yadayadayada, im your bosses boss. So you listen to what I say and bring me that loot now, or else im shipping all of your family out into space. Im not a patient man. Got that?"

I continue to remain silent, until I hear the other man's voice slowly die off the speaker. I give a little smirk to myself that I ran into this situation, especially when Jack doesn't know I'm the one on the other line, and not that poor solider I killed.

"Oh, he's got it alright." I say, calmly. The speaker is quiet for a long moment, then laugher breaks through.
"Oh my-oh my god! Is that really you I'm hearing? Let me guess-you took out my team huh? Bet you got your hands on that loot." Jack said, his giddy tone still evident in his voice.
"Yeah-no. I spent a good while looking for that loot like they were. Of course, I just had to kill 'em to get it. It's a shame that I couldn't find shit. I had to go through quite a lot to even get close to finding it." I explain. I kick a rock near my foot, as a stroll around the ground of dead bodies.
"Awe crap! If you weren't able to find it, no wonder these assholes couldn't! This set me back weeks!" Jack yells, kicking something in the background of the audio. I sigh, looking towards the sun, it looks like it's just past noon.
"Sorry you couldn't get that loot. Must have been pretty important if you wanted it." I say sympathetically.

Wait...why was I feeling sorry for the enemy? That's not how it's supposed to go...

"Nah, don't worry about it pumpkin. All it was is a old atlas prototype gun. I was gonna tinker with it in my spare time." Jack replies, after a moment of silence. "How 'bout this: I don't moonshot a create down to your location that doesn't carry one of my legendary personal weapons from my personal arsenal that you cannot take." He proposed with a very suspicious tone. "It's shitty that you wasted your time trying to find something that I claimed first, but I'm feeling a little nice today." Jack offered.

I stumble on my thoughts a moment. "Wait-why would you do this for me? How don't I know it's a trap?" I ask suspiciously.
"Eh I guess you really won't know. But if you really wanted to come all this way for nothing so be it. And like I said, I'm feeling nice today."

Before another word could come out of my mouth, a hear the click of a button, and I hear the Helios station. I look from behind a makeshift tent up towards Helios and see an object come towards me.

"Might wanna drop the device and run kiddo." Jack says.

I instantly drop the device I was holding and sprint away from the device as fast as I could. Not even 5 seconds later a crate lands directly where the device was.

Well thank god Jack warned me.

I hesitantly walk towards the crate as it opens up in front of me. I have my hand on my holster, ready for any trouble Jack may have wanted to give me instead of a gun.

Turns out I was wrong on my suspicions.

The weapon I was introduced with had a sticky note written in sloppy handwriting on the gun.

Enjoy. -HJ >;)

I rolled my eyes and scoffed to myself. Jack is such a loser. I pick up the shiny, gold plated shotgun. It definitely had a classy appearance. Now it was time to put it to the test.
