Jake delayed the inevitable for as long as, he could and Vergilia knew it. They talked about the matter few times, though Vergilia wanted to give him as much time as he needed. Finally he told her, that he was ready to introduce her to his mother. They chose to meet her during the week, since on weekends she worked longer.
First they grabbed a bite at the pizzeria near their school, since Jake didn't want to force Vergilia to eat what his mother might have cooked. As they walked from school to his house, hand in hand, Jake was taking deep breaths from time to time, to calm himself down. He was stressed. Though he was sure that his girlfriend would make a good impression, he didn't expect the same from his mother.
-Alright, we're here. - Jake said, as they reached the front door.
Jake opened the door and let Vergilia go first. She smiled at him, before she pulled him behind her. They were welcomed by Jake's mother, laying on the couch and watching TV. She looked up at her son and raised her eyebrows as she started sitting up.
-What a surprise. - she said. - You brought a friend.
-My girlfriend to be exact. - Jake answered. - Mom, this is Vergilia, Vergie this is my mom. - he introduced quickly.
-Is she the one who you argue with so much? - she asked, making Jake chuckle.
-No, that ended long ago. - he said.
-For you even a week is a long time. - Jake's mother said, laying back down. - I wonder how long this relationship of yours will last.
"Should I say that it will last longer than all of her relationships combined, or not?" Jake thought to himself.
-That's none of your concern. - he answered.
-You're right. - Jake's mother said. - Warm up some dinner for you two.
-We already ate. - he answered. - Mouse, why won't we take a walk? - he turned his attention to Vergilia.
-I think it's a good idea. - she agreed, then they left. - My God, how can she be so cold towards you?
-Don't ask me. - Jake chuckled. - But I prefer it that way, I don't want her involved in my business. I got used to it.
-It shouldn't be like this. - Vergilia said.
-It shouldn't. - Jake nodded. - But I have someone I want to build a better family than that. - he added, wrapping his arm around Vergilia's waist.
Time skip
Jake and Vergilia went to her house in the end. Eva and Simon had a small talk with them about how their meeting went. Damien was in his room, playing games.
-Told you there wasn't much to talk about. - Jake said, resting his chin on his hand. - Though I was scared she would act worse.
-I wonder Jake – said Simon. - where is your father? I never heard you talk about him much.
-He reminds himself about me once a year, when we have the school break. - Jake answered. - When it happens, I go to his house for two weeks, that's all. Don't really look forward to it.
Simon nodded, for a moment he seemed to be deep in thought. He didn't say anything else, just sat there. After a quick snack Vergilia took Jake to her room. They laid don on her bed as usually and snuggled up to each other.
-When are you going to your father now?- she asked after a moment.
-I don't think I will go any time soon.- Jake sighed. - We kinda had a big fight last time we spoke on the phone and we don't stay in touch ever since.
-I want to go meet him at some point. - Vergilia looked up at Jake, feeling him tense.
-That's not the best idea. - he shook his head. - He's an asshole, the fact that I have his character features is bad enough. He's the exact image of who I never want to become.
-Relax Kitty. - Vergilia started playing with his hair. - I won't run away from you.
-I believe you, I just don't want you to meet someone, who treats women like they are nothing but child raisers. - Jake nuzzled her neck. - I don't need my drinking stepmother around you either. I wish I could run away from all of it with you.
Vergilia held him tighter and stroke his hair until he relaxed.
