Chapter forty five

Jake and Vergilia were getting ready for Sebastian's birthday party, mixed with the party of Ackermans. Jake adjusted his black tie and glanced at Vergilia standing in front of the mirror, examining her look. He sighed in content. For a moment he couldn't believe his luck.

-You're so damn stunning Mouse. - he said.

-I'm happy you like it. - Vergilia smiled and put her lipstick on. Jake was watching her every move. - I'm ready to go.

They bid their goodbyes to Jake's mother, then they got in Vergilia's car. The ride passed in the company of Jake singing along to the CD he put in, making Vergilia smile and chuckle from time to time. He was adorable at this moment, completely different to his school self, whenever he dealt with Committee matters. He could relax and in Vergilia's eyes, this was the best version of him. The happy one.

-You know, you have a good voice. - she said.

-Good, because you have to put up with it. - Jake answered and got back to the next line, continuing his concert until they arrived at the venue. Vergilia parked her car next to Lucy's bike. They got out, grabbed the presents and walked up to the table, where their friends were seated.

-Welcome. - said Leon, walking up to them.

Martha and Sebastian joined them soon. Jake hugged all three and wished them happy birthday, then Vergilia's wishes followed. She wished all of them happy birthday though and handed Martha her present, while Jake took care of Leon and Sebastian. Martha got earrings, Leon found a set of tea in his box. Sebastian smiled at the horror book he found in his present.

-Thank you, though the best present is right here. - Sebastian said, looking at Jake and Vergilia. - Do you remember what I wished for last year?

-I do. - Jake chuckled. - And look, it came true.

-Of course it did, I'm always right. - Sebastian answered, earning a laugh from one of his friends.

-You forgot the match against Chris, when you got you ass served. - he said, making Sebastian glare at him.

-Right, please meet my Junior High basketball team I told you about Jake, and the mouthy one is Alan Lawson. - he introduced. - That's Jake Sanders and his girlfriend Vergilia Adams, Damien's sister.

Jake and Vergilia got seated between Damien and Curtis from the basketball team. Leon brought them their drinks right away, there was no need to ask what they would like. An energy drink for Jake and tea for Vergilia.

-Jake, is that true that you and Sebastian got in a fight? - Alan asked.

-Yes, just once though. - Jake answered.

-Who won? - this time the other was the one to ask the question.

-We were even, but I think we both kind of won. - Jake smiled, looking at Sebastian for approval.

-Jake is right. - Sebastian agreed. - Our friendship is a worthy prize.

The waiters slowly served the main courses. The starters weren't bad, but Jake didn't eat too much at home, knowing he would have a lot of food to eat at the party. He was starving. He felt his mouth water at the sight of the juicy steak on his plate. Once everyone got their food, they dug in, complimenting the food from time to time.

-This place becomes officially my favorite. - Jake said.

-Noted. - Vergilia said with a smirk.

After the meal it was time for desert. Jake thought he was full, but the next words worked on his like a magic spell.

-Get ready for the cake. - Martha said as the waiter rolled the huge birthday cake in on a cart.

Zoe started running around with the camera, snapping pictures as the trio blew the candles and cut the cake together. Jake got a huge piece and his eyes shone at the sight of it. They shone once more when he took the first bite.

After the cake the music started to play. Jake was in a really good mood, so he asked Vergilia for a dance. They walked out on the dancefloor, where Damien was trying to not to step on Lucy's feet too much. Others slowly started joining them too. They danced through the whole evening and half of the night, until it was time to go home.
