Chapter forty three

Christmas break finally started. Vergilia and Jake made a plan to spend the Christmas Eve with Vergilia's parents, then on the next day pay a visit to Jake's mother. It worked well, because she was going for Christmas Eve to her friends, so she wouldn't be home. They also had a birthday party to attend, as three of their friends agreed to celebrate together. After the day full of shopping at the mall for the presents, they fell on the couch exhausted. The peace and silence of the house was so pleasant after hours in the loud mall.

-My back hurts. - Jake muttered.

-My legs hurt too. - Vergilia answered.

They didn't even want to move, but it was time to eat something. They wanted to do it at the mall, but there was too many people there and the queues were huge. The couple stayed at the couch for a bit, before they got up and made their way to the kitchen for dinner.

Once they were done with eating, they got ready to go to Vergilia's parents' house and packed the car. Vergilia started the engine afterwards and they were off to their destination. They got there after few minutes. Damien's car wasn't to be seen yet, so that meant they were quicker. They grabbed the bags and got out of the vehicle. Eva already opened the door for them. She hugged them and let them in.

-Jake, what are those bags? - she asked.

-We met Santa on our way here. -Vergilia, before Jake set the presents under the Christmas tree.

-Jake, do you want to do off-road with me? - Simon was to be heard from the kitchen. - It's so fun in snow!

-I can imagine, we can go. - Jake answered, as he walked in the kitchen with Eva and Vergilia. - Do you guys need help?

-We're fine, everything is ready. - Eva smiled. - We're just waiting for Damien, late as usual. Why won't you two tell us how are you doing in the meantime?

Vergilia answered her parents' questions until Damien showed up finally.

-Sorry, my car didn't want to start. -he said. - I really need someone with better hand to cars than me.

-You should get with Lucy. - Jake deadpanned.

-Thanks, I wanna live. - Damien answered and laid his bags under the Christmas tree with the others.

-At least you wouldn't be bored with her. - Jake added, actually being able to imagine himself the two together.

-That's for sure. - Damien chuckled, before he walked up to his mother and kissed her cheek.

-Well, now that everyone are here, let's start the feast. - Simon said, leading them all to the table.

The food was really good. Usually Jake kept his diet, and didn't eat too much, until he was completely full, but he just couldn't stop himself. Vergilia noticed that made a mental note to make fish like that at home. After the main courses, they had cake for dessert. The apple pie and cheesecake were Jake's doom.

-My goodness, I can't stuff anything more. - he said, leaning back in his chair.

-I take it that you liked it. - Eva smiled.

-It was delicious. - answered Jake, rubbing his stomach. - To think that tomorrow I will have a repeat with my mom already makes me dread my workout routine to burn all of it.

-You will only end up with more muscle, and then, I will have to worry about all the girls hitting on you. -Vergilia said, then took a bite of her cake.

-Why can't they hit on me? - Damien whined.

-Because you sound so desperate. -chuckled Jake. - And to address your concerns Mouse, you know I care only about your attention.

-You better. - Vergilia nodded.

-Exactly, you better. - Simon joined.- But I don't think you'd make anything stupid enough to lose my daughter, you're smarter than I thought.

-I wouldn't change neither of you for the world. - Jake smiled. - And I'm glad I changed your mind about me.

-Mostly by off-road trips - Eva chuckled. - But it's a good answer.

They stayed up until late. When it was finally time to go to sleep, Jake and Vergilia went to her bedroom for the night. Eva teased Jake if he wanted to sleep in the guestroom, but he politely declined, and added he worried that he could feel too cold. Vergilia rolled her eyes and just pulled him in the bedroom in the end. They got ready to bed and got it. They snuggled up with each other and fell asleep soon after. After all, in the morning they would have a day with Jake's mom. He silently dreaded that, but he couldn't help but relax feeling Vergilia's fingers in his hair.
