I knew I was in trouble as soon as he walked in, standing across from me with eyes intensely on not just me, but Jackson too. I was praying to myself Harry wouldn't walk over. But within a few seconds later I saw the same head of curls walking in our direction.
His steps are slow and precise. Almost like a tiger eyeing its newfound prey, getting ready to pounce. But I wasn't entirely sure just who the prey was. Jackson or me?
His expression didn't give anything away. As usual. "Aurora, what a pleasant surprise." his voice indicated nothing pleasant about it.
"Harry, I didn't expect to see you here," I said, while his eyes analysed my masked face. And no matter how much I tried to put on a façade of confidence, Harry had a talent to see right through it.
A smirk appeared on his lips-- An arrogant one at that, also, as usual.
"Who is this?" Jackson spoke up from across the table.
"Didn't she just call me Harry?" Harry spoke in a teasing tone, almost like he was looking for a reaction. "You have to listen mate."
I turned away from Harry, awkwardly looking down at my fidgeting hands before meeting Jackson's angry glare. "This is Harry. He's..." Harry raised an eyebrow, "a friend of mine." his eyebrows stayed up high. "Harry, this is Jackson."
"Jackson.." he pondered at the name before his eyes lit up in surprise. "Oh-" he paused, taking a blatant seat beside me before continuing, "I've always wanted to get to know you, Jaxie." his body was pressed close against mine with every movement we made, we touched one another. I took note that there was enough room for him to leave space between us, but Harry decided to ignore that and sat as close as possible next to me.
"Jaxie?" Jackson spat, "Wait- is this the Harry who answered your phone?"
Right.. I had completely forgotten about their phone call, when I was visiting Harry's band practice.
"In the flesh." Harry replied proudly.
This is off to a great start.
"So, Jaxi-Boo, what are you and Aurora up to?"
"We're having a date. So, would you mind giving us some privacy?" Jackson replied, clearly irritated by Harry's presence at the table.
"We're not having a date. We're...talking."
"I like to talk." Harry interrupted, his eyes focusing on Jackson, "I guess I'll stick around then." his tone drowned in arrogance and disdain. "So, Jaxi, are you planning on sticking around Maplewood long?"
"Well, Aurora lives here now, it's only natural I live here too. Plus getting a job will be no problem at all; My father's the head of the law enforcement."
I couldn't help but feel my face drop at his words. Jackson and I haven't had the chance to talk about things and he's already planning on moving to the city?
"Ooh, riding on daddy's coattail I see." I gaped at Harry, seeing the smirk on his face that has yet to move.
"I made my degree like everybody else. There's no one more deserving than me to work in such a prestige field."
I suddenly felt Harry's arm so casually making it way around my neck and finally resting on my shoulder, where his ring clad fingers dangled over, gently tapping against my skin every so often.
Jackson noticed too.
"So, you two work together? At least that's what Aurora here told me over the phone."I laughed, "Harry works in a total different department than me."
