Sweetheart

The hospital staff must have informed the doctor about our plan to leave without notice. He met us in the hallway, but Gelo raised his arm to halt him from approaching Dion, who merely glanced at him because he was guiding me to the elevator. I just gave the doctor an apologetic look. May sinabi pa siya kay Gelo dahil nag-aalala para sa pasyente but Gelo reassured him that Dion would return if needed.

And I assumed the bills were already paid, as no one had stopped us from heading to the exit. Dion gestured to the backseat for me, and though hesitant, I still got in.

"Your men are in the apartment?" tanong ko habang nasa byahe. "I hope they won't cause commotion there. It's already late. I don't want this kind of trauma for my kid."

"Hindi nila sasaktan si Tyron. Unless he insists on leaving the area under strict restriction..." His stern expression softened when he noticed the concern on my face. "That's my daughter, too. I assure you we'll try to make this all easy for her. If your brother cares for my daughter's well-being, he'd want the same, too."

"But are you sure he's planning to leave with my daughter? Hindi iyon gagawin ni Kuya, Dion. Wala rin naman silang ibang mapupuntahan. Are you sure your men are in our new apartment?

Both Dion and I turned our attention to Gelo. He must have sensed our anticipation and glanced back at us over his shoulder.

"It's positive," simpleng sagot niya.

I knew he was simply concerned about where my brother might take our daughter, but a part of me also believed that my brother wouldn't do such a thing.

Gelo even informed us that the taxi driver had left an hour ago, leaving the suitcase behind.

"Mommy?"

Nagkatinginan kami ni Dion. Gelo glanced at us.

"B-Baby," I almost squealed in surprise.

"Where are you, M-Mommy?" she sounded sleepy. O kagigising lang. As if to confirm it, she yawned. "Uuwi ba ikaw, Mommy?"

"Yes, baby. Pauwi na si Mommy. Uh... where's your Tito Ninong?"

Dion shifted on his feet. He was about to say something but I stopped him.

"Where's your Tito Ninong, baby?"

"He's asleep, Mom," her voice hushed as if sharing a secret. "I borrowed his phone to call you. Are you really coming home?"
