Lunch
I put my bag down the table and sat on my chair to read the letter. And it was the longest letter I received for a while.
But I frowned and read it again.
...to inform you that the Central Bank of the Philippines has initiated a review of the longstanding loan arrangement made by your parents, Mr. and Mrs. David F. Arquia, ten years ago.
With the awareness of your family, Mr. and Mrs. David F. Arquia secured the loan against the property holdings of Archangel Hotel and Fernandez Residence Mansion, which served as collateral.
... the accrued interest has now reached a point where the original amount borrowed has been exceeded.
Effective September 4, 202x, we are left with no choice but to request either the full repayment of the outstanding loan amount along with accumulated interest or the transfer of ownership of either the property mentioned to the bank.
I stared at that piece of paper na mukha magbabago nang lubusan sa buhay namin ni Kuya. But I could not see a light of hope from that change.
"They're inviting me over to the bank," wala sa sarili kong sinabi kay Ynnah.
It was a long-ten-years of accumulated interest. A plan was included in their loan terms indicating that my parents could delay the payment for the interest for a while. But after ten years, the delayed interest accumulated over time at ngayon nga ay kailangan na ring bayaran. Interest palang iyon.
And it's honestly understandable that the bank is now planning the next step of their loan agreement.
I was shocked to hear about the 20 million debt of my brother. I was sure we used to.
We lost our parents in a sudden accident. But they were not the only thing we lost. We lost half of the wealth I thought we had.
I blinked and stared at her worried face. I sighed and shook my head, and dropped my face to my palms.
"You can return at your desk," nagawa ko pang sabihin nang maayos.
I lost hope at the 20 million debt.
