"Tony I hate to do this but I need to leave right now." Anna was speaking quickly as she burst into Tony Kahn's office. He and Skye had been having a conversation about the young stars upcoming program. Neither one of them had expected the intrusion as Tony's meetings were rarely interrupted. "Sorry I didn't realize..."
"You're alright Anna. But what's going on?" Tony responded quickly knowing that if she had come into his office that it was important.
"I.... It's hard to explain but one of my childhood best friends is a firefighter. He just sent my mom and I a text that...." Both Skye and Tony could tell that her voice had caught in her throat at her words.
"Anna go. You don't need to explain more." Anna just about instantly turned on her heels and ran out of the room.
"Tony.... Since I'm not needed tonight can I...?" He nodded instantly as Skye spoke.
"Make sure she gets where she need to alright. Let me know if everything's okay please Skye." She nodded before standing and quickly moving towards the door.
"Thank you Tony." She said before she went after Anna who was just about running out of the arena. "Anna...." Her name stopped the brunette in her tracks. As she turned Skye could see tears welling in Anna's eyes. "Give me your keys and tell me where to go." Anna was grateful of the lack of questions asked. She handed Skye her keys before the two quickly got into the car.
"I.... We need to go back home. It's.... Ryder." Anna's voice was shaky she was struggling to keep it together. Skye nodded before she quickly left the arena parking lot. Once they were on the highway Skye reached over and gently squeezed Anna's hand.
"You don't need to explain but you also don't need to hold it together because I'm in the car. Just let it out Anna." Skye could feel Anna return the squeeze before she could hear a sob escape the brunettes lips. Anna's emotions took over for nearly an hour as Skye continued the drive back to the other woman's house.
"He's just so fucking stupid...." The frustrated words escaped Anna's lips as her tears turned to anger. "He always fucking does this shit. I swear to god Skye if he's alright after this I will put him in the hospital. He's so fucking stupid." Anna took a moment to look out the window before a sob broke through her lips. "He fucking.... He...." The words were stuck. "He told us...." Anna tried to control her emotions enough to get the last three words through her lips. "He loved us." Skye looked over at Anna for a quick moment. She could see just how torn up the brunette looked. Tears were flowing down her cheeks, her eyes red and puffy. Anna's tall form was curled into the seat, her knees tucked into her chest. "He doesn't.... He's never said that to us.... He.... He wouldn't say that unless something was...."
"He's going to be alright Anna. You're going to get your chance to kill him trust me." Skye could hear Anna sniffle.
"I hope so." The words were weak. Skye reached over and gently squeezed Anna's arm before the two continued the drive in silence, the only noise coming from the radio that was turned down low. "Here let me give you the address to my parents. Probably better that we go there. If something happens...." Skye looked over at Anna for a moment who was focused on her phone trying not to let her emotions get the better of herself. "They'll be the ones that find out first."
"He really is like your brother isn't he?" Anna nodded.
"His parents died when he was three. Ever since mine have taken care of him. We've been the only family he's really known." Skye's eyes met Anna's before she once more took Anna's hand and squeezed it. When Anna's phone rang it jolted them both. Quickly she answered it as Skye's focus went back to the road. "Mom what the...." Skye could hear Anna's words get cut off but couldn't hear what was said on the other end. "Skye stop the car." Her head snapped towards Anna who had gone completely pale. "Skye...." Carefully Skye pulled to the side of the road. She had expected Anna to run out of the car but instead the brunette stayed with the phone firmly pressed to her ear. "What do you...?" There was a pause from Anna. "How...?" Another pause. "How in the...?"
Skye was simply watching and trying to gather information as Anna spoke with her mother. She could see Anna fighting back tears as the conversation went on. Finally after a nearly twenty minute conversation Anna hung up the phone. She took a breath before looking over at Skye.
"I.... Can you.... Fuck me Anna words." Anna was struggling to form a sentence and Skye could tell. Without any hesitation she pulled the brunette in for a tight hug. "Thank you...." The words came out before a sob escaped Anna's lips. Skye's arms tightened around her as she let Anna cry into her shoulder. After a few minutes Anna pulled herself together before she pulled away and her eyes met Skye's.
"Where do we need to go?" Anna sucked in a breath at the question.
"Florida. He.... They sent him down there and...." Skye stopped her by gently squeezing her hand.
"Anna you don't need to explain. I'm just here to make sure you get where you need to go safe and sound." Anna pulled Skye in for another tight hug. Anna spoke quietly into Skyes ear as she showed her gratitude for the younger woman.
"Thank you. I honestly don't think I'd have made it this far if you hadn't taken the keys."
