Running into the Fire (Skye Blue x OC)

"So you're cleared and you're back at work?" Skye could hear the question being asked and knew exactly who Anna was talking to. Ryder had been recovering for the past two months but had gone in to see if he would be cleared.

"You're nuts Ryder." Ryder couldn't help his laugh at her words as Anna put the call on speaker.

"We've already established that." Both women couldn't help their laugh at his words. "But I'm good though. Hands and foot are fine and I'm so ready to not be stuck in your damn house."

"You sure Ry?" Though she couldn't see it he was nodding.

"I'm sure Anna. Are you good though?" Skye looked over at Anna and could see the worried look along her face.

"Just worried about your idiot self as usual." He chuckled at her words.

"I'm alright Anna. I promise. You know I won't go back if I'm not in the right headspace." He could hear her sigh, but he couldn't see her nod.

"Alright Ry." Anna's words were unconvincing. "I swear to you though.... If you get hurt I will murder you." He laughed.

"Heard that threat many times before. Need to come up with a new one...." Ryder was cut off by an alarm in the station. "I've gotta go. I'll text you when I'm back. Let me know how your match goes."

"Be safe Ry." Anna let out a sigh as he hung up the phone. "He's so fucking stupid." She said as she looked over at Skye who simply laughed.

"Because we aren't when we're in the same position. He'll be alright though Anna." Anna slowly nodded at Skye's words.

"I hope so." She replied quietly. Before she could even say anything else her phone was ringing again. "Ryder what's...." He cut her off.

"Anna get the fuck out of that arena now." Ryders words were quick and serious.

"What is...?" He once again cut her off.

"Anna I'm not fucking around. Feel the door make sure it's not hot, if it isn't get the fuck out." Anna's eyes went wide as they met Skyes.

"Anna what is going...." Anna was out of her chair and moving towards the door. The back of her hand pressed to it before she pulled it back instantly.

"It's fucking burning Ryder." She said as she back up towards Skye.

"Put the phone on speaker." Anna shakily did. "I need to know exactly where you are and if there's anyone else with you." He had placed his phone on speaker so the rest of his team could hear it.

"It's just us two right now. We were early. We're in the away team locker room. I-It's all the way in the back of the arena." Both Anna and Skyes eyes were on the door and they could see smoke starting to creep in.

"There's showers in the back. You both need to get in there and turn the water on. If there's any towels soak them in water and put them on the bottom of any door. It'll stop the smoke." Skye was moving before Anna could. She quickly grabbed towels and got them wet before she positioned them at the bottom of the door. "Anna...."

"Don't say it." Her voice was a mere whisper.

"You're going to be alright." Both women could hear his words before Skye pulled Anna towards the bathroom. "We're outside. Just stay on the phone." They could tell his phone had been placed into his pocket as they could barely hear what was being said around him.

As Ryder looked around he could see smoke pouring out of the building as a mass of people did. The fire alarms were blaring but all of the firefighters knew that the sprinklers in the old arena had not been working for nearly three months. He sucked in a breath as he placed his rebreather on. They all knew what their jobs were.

Anna and Skye couldn't help but get more and more worried as the time went on and the smoke began to fill the main locker room. It had been nearly thirty minutes since they had last heard from Ryder and they had begun to think he had forgotten about them.

"I-It's getting so hard to breathe...." Anna could hear Skye admit. Smoke had slowly begun to creep into the room and Anna knew that Skyes past history of asthma would only hurt her. She heard the younger woman begin to struggle to get a full breath in. Carefully she pulled Skye into the shower before they both sat down on the tile.

"Slow breaths. I know it's hard with the smoke." Anna could feel herself start to struggle to breathe as well and knew it was only a matter of time before the room was filled with smoke.

"Anna! Call out if you're in there!" The words came a few minutes after and Anna could just barely choke out a response.

"Ryder!" In one smooth motion he kicked the door to the bathroom open. Anna couldn't help but be grateful as she saw that it wasn't just Ryder. As he came up and went to grab her she immediately pushed him away and towards Skye. "She needs help."

"Are you...?" He questioned before he saw her shakily stand up.

"I just need some air." Without any hesitation Ryders partner handed Anna a spare rebreather before she was scooped up and quickly carried out of the room. Ryders attention snapped back to Skye when he could feel her grab his arm. As their eyes met he could tell she was absolutely terrified.

"You're alright. I've got you." He said as he pulled out an oxygen mask for her and carefully put it on. "Just take some slow breaths." His words were soft as he scooped her up. Skye just about buried into him as he carried her out of the building. Hearing her still struggling to breathe he carried her towards the back of an ambulance. He quickly pulled his helmet and mask off. "Skye...." Her eyes snapped to his. As he saw the tears begin to form in her eyes something in him told him exactly what she needed.

Anna watched from another ambulance as Ryder took a step forwards his arms carefully wrapping around Skye who all but collapsed into him. The action surprised everyone around them that knew Ryder. Gently his hand ran along her back as she cried into his shoulder.

"I-It's alright Skye." He said quietly. He couldn't help the breath he let out as he saw Anna approach. He was never good with people crying. Just as he thought she was going to take over he could feel Anna's arms wrap around his neck. "Oh fuck me not you too." Anna couldn't help the tears that fell into his shirt as she felt one of his arms carefully wrap around her. His other arm stayed around Skye, his hand gently squeezing her side. "Are you alright?" He questioned Anna who nodded. "Thank fuck. I really didn't want to have to deal with Mom." Anna's lips pressed to his cheek before she pulled away from him.

"Thank you." Ryder nodded before he gently pulled away from Skye. "Skye you've got to breathe." Anna took the words out of Ryders mouth as they both could hear her begin to hyperventilate. His hands gently moved to cup Skyes face forcing their eyes to meet. He could see her all but begging him for help.

"You're alright. Everything's going to be alright." To her his words were nowhere near as calming as his thumbs slowly moving along her cheeks. Finally her breathing returned to normal. Skye almost instantly pulled him in for another hug which Anna was once more surprised at the fact that he returned it almost immediately. "You both still need to get properly checked out." He said quietly.

"I already did." He nodded at Anna's words before he could feel Skye pull away from him. "You though...."

"I'm fine." He said almost instantly.

"I wasn't talking about you dumbass." Anna said as she hit him before looking at Skye. "I was talking about her."

"I know." Skyes voice was scratchy as she spoke. Ryder almost instantly called one of the EMT's over to have her checked out before Anna pulled him to the side. She all but collapsed into him. His arms gently wrapped around her shoulders.

"You sure you're alright?" Ryder said quietly before Anna nodded. "Can you not fucking scare me like that again please?" She once again nodded.

"Just give us a little more of a heads up." He laughed before he nodded. What she didn't expect was for his lips to press to the top of her head.

"I'm glad you're okay Anna. You have no idea...." Anna hit his side before she looked up at him. As her eyes met Ryders she spoke.

"I fucking do. I go through it every time I hear you're going into a fire."
