Skyes head was carefully resting along Ryders chest. She had been up the majority of the night listening to his breathing. Every time he had coughed or wheezed she had held her breath almost like she had been expecting something to happen. As he started to cough again her hand moved to gently run along his stomach.
"Skye.... You need to sleep." The words came quietly from him as he realized she was still awake.
"I did...." Her lie didn't fool him.
"No you didn't. I'm alright I promise Skye." His words were quiet as he knew she needed the sleep before her show later.
"I am too Ryder. You need the sleep too." His hand ran along her side and that's when he heard her hiss in pain. Almost instantly he was fully awake.
"Skye...." He tried to get their eyes to meet but she was looking everywhere else.
"It's just a bruise." He didn't even hesitate to pull her shirt up before he saw a large bruise along her hip.
"That's not just a bruise. You need to properly get that checked." She simply cuddled more into him ignoring his words. "Fine if you won't then you're at least going to sleep." A sigh was released before she reluctantly nodded. He adjusted the blankets so they were along her shoulders. "Just close your eyes." He said quietly as she gently his fingertips move carefully though her hair.
"That's so nice." His lips pressed to her forehead as his fingers continued to slowly move. He could feel her get heavier along his chest before she spoke without even knowing. "I love...." She didn't finish her statement as she went completely limp the lack of sleep fully catching up with her. For the longest time he stared at her. His fingers were still unconsciously moving while the rest of him was all but frozen.
It was almost two hours later that he finally snapped out of his trance when he heard his phone buzz. Carefully he reached for it earning a slight grumble from Skye as he finally got his phone. As he saw it was a text from Anna he quickly answered it before he setting his phone back down on the nightstand. It was mere seconds later that he heard a knock at the door. Another grumble came from her as he carefully slipped from beneath her. A groan escaped his lips as he slowly stood up.
"What's up Julia?" He questioned as he fully opened the door. Julia looked him over for a moment.
"Just checking on you both.... How are you doing Ryder?" He shrugged. "Did you break any ribs?"
"I fractured three." Her head shook as a frown appeared along her lips.
"How's Skye?" A sigh escaped his lips as he leaned into the door.
"Can I tell you something that you can't tell Anna?" Julia's eyes met his for a moment. Never before had he ever asked her anything like this.
"Before I agree does Skye know?" He nodded. "Then alright. I promise I won't tell Anna."
"When they did the scans and whatnot they found that I've lost a lot of my lung function." She was staring at him. "I've got to see a few specialists but right now a lot of shit is up in air because I don't really know just how bad it all is but the accident has for some reason taken me from feeling fine to feeling like I'm breathing under fucking water. S-She...." He stopped for a moment to catch his breath and Julia could tell that the conversation was getting harder for him. "Skye didn't sleep last night. Only fell asleep a few hours ago. She's got a nasty bruise on her hip that she's just ignoring and I just...."
"You're worried about her aren't you?" He nodded. "Well dummy she's worried about you as well. I know its hard for you to trust people but Skye.... You know you can trust. Whether you like it or not she's going to be there for you every step of the way and you know damn well she's not going to let you out of her sight so get used to being smothered." He chuckled lightly before his hand moved to his ribs. She instantly knew he was in pain.
