"Are you going to see Olivia?"
"Yeah Dad texted his about to leave,"
"What's wrong with you and your father?"
"Ma did you know his been having problems." Whe sits on the bed wondering where I'm going with this. "Drinking problems, his always drunk, be it morning, lunch and especially at night, apparently his been selling his properties, getting loans and yet he still couldn't pay my school tuition."
"What do you mean he couldn't pay isn't he the one..."
"No ma, Olivia has been doing all the paying. And it makes me so angry that his acting like everything is fine yet his an addict, look at the way he showed up at the hospital, drunk, he couldn't even form a proper sentence."
"Spencer don't call him that."
"That's why I didn't want to say anything, you're taking his side."
She gets up, walks up to the other side of the room. "I'm not taking anyone's side, what you are saying is a lot. I'll talk to him."
"No I will talk to him, i only told you because you asked. His a grown man and his married." That last part felt like eating bile but mom didn't need to get involved she's nolonger his wife.
"Speaking of Olivia."
"Oh my goodness mom if you don't want me to go visit her just say it. Its been four days and you always act like this when I mention her name." I know why she's like this but its also irritating.
"I'm just worried about your closeness with her." There it is. "I feel sick for even thinking that you might have a crush on YOUR STEPMOTHER."
Now what to say. If I deny, this can come back and bite me because I will have to tell her at some point. And I can't agree, Olivia is in the hospital, she wouldn't appreciate the ambush plus we should both be on the same page before saying anything. Which leaves me saying nothing, but that could make her think it's the truth but without my clarification it's not valid.
"Spencer?" Her shocked face staring back at me.
"Ma like you said these are your thoughts, now can I please finish getting ready?"
She looks at me dead on in the eyes and I don't back down. I know now without doubt she knows but can't wrap her head around the idea that it's true or it can even be more. Mom breaks out into a laugh, touching her head. "I honestly don't know what's wrong with me." I wish I can form a fake laugh to ease her worries. Nothing is funny though.
Eventually she leaves the room. Once she finds out, this will not end well. Her expression told me what the outcome looks like.
When I get to the hospital that afternoon, Jordan and Olivia looked like they were having a serious conversation. Her hard eyes took a while to soften upon seeing me.
"Hey man" Jordan greeted.
"How's it going?"
He looked back at Olivia and then at me, "good, all good on my part." Claps his hands dramatically. "I'll give you some space to talk, I'll be down the hall if you need me."
When the door closes I walk closer. "His acting weird." I don't know the man very well but he seems to be a shitty liar. So my lucky guess is that he knows. "Does he know."
"Only that we kissed that night." What night? Ohhh! That night, my nugget brain forgot he was there. Seems like ages ago now. Wait did we kiss at the club or she told him about that night?
"How are you feeling?" I ask. Olivia grabs my hand bring it to her lips. The bruises to my ribs have healed a little, I can lift my hand without much pain now. But she's in a worse situation than I am, what I feel is nothing compared to how she feels plus she had a miscarriage, it must be brutal for her right now.
