"Oh my god, seriously?!" Sayuri jumps for joy on Saturday night when you find her at the club. "You got with him again?"

"Yeah, thanks to your stupid little push," you mutter.

"No, I'm serious," she insists. "I'm happy for you! So, did he ask you to go to the wedding with him?"

"Yeah, but that's not the point," you huff, not wanting to dwell on the conversation. "The point is, I think I like him. A lot."

"Oh my god, this is so great!"

"I just... don't know how to be with someone who's actually good for me," you admit as you walk towards the bar with her.

"That's certainly true," she scoffs. "No offense, Y/N, but the guys you've been with were total shitbags."

"They were, weren't they?" you chuckle.

"They really were," she nods, pouring two drinks and handing you one.

You sigh as you accept the drink. "And, you know, the other thing is... I'm going to cut back the hours here."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah, it's exhausting and I can't keep going like this. I'll still help out but," you begin, taking a sip of the drink, the liquid burning down your throat. "I'm going to focus on the coffee shop. It's a little slower there, so I'm thinking it'll be easier."

"What are you going to do for rent, though?" she frowns. "Don't become dependent on Kita just because he's nice and makes you feel good."

"I'm not," you shake your head. "I have enough saved up from my time here. I think this will be good for me, Sayuri."

"Good," she nods.

"Thank you," you smile. "Thanks for being here for me, especially when things are so hard. I don't know where I'd be without you."

"Yeah, well, if you really want to thank me, take me dress shopping with you before work tomorrow," she grins.

"Deal," you laugh.

On Sunday afternoon, Sayuri comes over to your apartment, carrying a bag of snacks and a bottle of wine.

"It's a bit early for drinking," you note as she places the bag on the table and makes herself comfortable on your couch.

"It's never too early," she smiles.

"I thought we were going out dress shopping," you then frown, glancing at the clock.

"We are, but I want to hear about your night with Kita," she says, reaching for the bottle of wine and pouring two glasses.

"There's not much to tell," you shrug, accepting the glass and taking a sip.

"Bullshit," she scoffs. "There has to be more than that."

"Okay, fine," you sigh, taking another sip. "We made dinner together, ate, talked, watched a movie, then... fucked."

"Wait, wait, wait," she pauses, putting her glass down. "You cooked dinner with him and had sex? I'm not sure I've ever done that."

"Yeah, well, maybe I'm a better girlfriend than you," you smirk.

"Oh, shut up," she laughs, taking another sip of her wine.

The two of you continue talking about the weekend and all of the events that had occurred, the conversation flowing easily between the two of you.

"You should really tell Takao that you're going to cut back your hours," she suddenly says.

"I know," you nod. "I've just been so busy. I'll tell him next time."

"Alright, but I'm telling you, he's going to be pissed," she warns.

"Yeah, I know," you say, a hint of annoyance in your voice. "But I can't keep doing two jobs."

"I get it, but just be prepared."

"I will," you assure her. "Now can we go dress shopping?"

"Yes!" she says, jumping to her feet. "I'm so excited! Let's go."

With that, the two of you grab your bags and make your way out to her car. You can't help but smile, feeling lighter than you have in a while.

The two of you go downtown to a small boutique that specializes in formal dresses. As the two of you enter the store, you notice an overwhelming amount of dresses that makes your head start to spin.

"What color are you thinking of?" Sayuri asks.

"I don't know," you admit. "I haven't thought that far."

"Well, we have time," she shrugs. "Though I think navy blue would look good on you."

"Navy blue?" you repeat.

"Yeah," she nods.

"I was thinking maybe burgundy."

"Burgundy? Do you know how hard it is to style burgundy?"

"Yeah, but maybe it'll stand out," you shrug.

"If it stands out, then it's going to stand out because it's ugly," she snorts.

"Hey, be nice," you scold. "This is supposed to be fun."

"It's not supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be stressful," she reminds you.

"Alright, then, why don't we try on a few different colors and see what works best," you suggest.

Just then, a worker approaches the two of you. "Hello, ladies," she smiles. "My name is Chiyo. How can I help you today?"

"Hi," you say, returning her smile. "We're looking for a formal dress."

"May I ask what the occasion is?" she questions.

"She's going to a wedding," Sayuri answers.

"Ah, that's lovely," Chiyo nods. "Do you have a specific color or style in mind?"

"No, not really," you shrug.

"Okay, then, let's start by narrowing down the colors," Chiyo says, motioning for the two of you to follow her.

The three of you make your way over to a wall filled with a variety of different shades of red, purple, and blue.

"Here are our most popular colors," Chiyo explains. "Now, which one speaks to you?"

"Well, I was thinking maybe a dark blue," you answer.

"A dark blue, hmm? We do have some nice deep blue shades," Chiyo says as she looks over the wall of dresses. "Ah, this one would look nice."

"Let's try it on," you nod.

With that, the three of you head over to the fitting rooms and you and Sayuri try on a few different styles. The first dress is a little too tight and the second one is a bit too loose, but the third one seems to fit perfectly.

"How's this one?" you ask, stepping out of the fitting room and twirling around. It is a satin dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves, a cowl neckline, and a fitted waist.

"I love it!" Sayuri exclaims.

"I agree," Chiyo nods.

"This one?" you frown, looking at your reflection in the mirror. "Really?"

"Yes, it looks amazing on you," Sayuri assures you.

"Okay, then, I guess this is the one," you sigh.

"What's wrong?" Sayuri asks you as she places her arms on your shoulders, looking in the mirror with you. "You don't seem happy."

"It's just, I haven't bought a dress like this in a long time," you admit.

"I know," she nods. "But it's going to be worth it. Trust me."

"Okay," you say, turning to her. "Then can we go look at shoes now?"

"Absolutely," she grins.

With that, the two of you spend the rest of the afternoon shopping for shoes and accessories, enjoying each other's company and laughing as you try on various outfits.
