On Wednesday morning you walk to your new job just as you have done for the past two days. You say good morning to your boss and Mel before heading out to your station.
You begin your shift and work hard, trying to learn as much as you can. You intend on keeping this job, after all. After an hour of making drinks and taking orders, Mel offers to cover you if you want to take a break.
"No, that's alright," you shake your head. "Do you need anything, though?"
"Yeah, I'd like an order of fries and a Sprite," she grins.
"I'm sorry, we don't sell that here," you joke back at her. But before your conversation can go any further, the door opens and your attention is stolen by the man who walks in. Atsumu.
"Hi," he says, offering you a smile. "Can I get a small coffee? Black."
"Sure," you reply, grabbing a mug. You then begin to move down the line, preparing his drink.
"The wedding's next Friday, you know. So you still have time to go," Atsumu hums as he watches you.
You pause, the weight of his statement sinking in as you recall what happened a few nights ago. "I don't think so," you murmur softly. "I've made things even weirder with Kita."
Atsumu's expression shifts, a flicker of concern crossing his features as he takes in your words. "How?" he asks.
You sigh as you pour his drink. "A few nights ago we hung out, had a few drinks, and..." You trail off, unsure of how much you should reveal.
"And?" he questions as you pass him his drink.
"Tsumu, I don't have time to talk about this right now. I have a job to do," you say, hoping he'll let it go.
"What?" Atsumu's voice cuts through the quiet room. "Nobody's in here, sit with me," he suggests.
You look around. He's right, he's the only customer in here right now. So, after double-checking with Mel, you walk over to a nearby
table and take a seat.
"Tell me what's going on," he whispers.
"Well, the night started off well," you begin, glancing up at him. "But then I went back to his house and we ended up sleeping together.
"Wow," Atsumu breathes. "Well, shit."
"It's stupid, I know," you mumble.
"It's not," he shakes his head. Then, a moment of silence passes between the two of you before he speaks again. "You know, it really is nice seeing you. Osamu would like to see you too, and Suna, Kita, and Aran."
"Why do you care this much?" you find yourself asking, a flicker of confusion and vulnerability seeping into your voice. "I mean, why bother worrying about me when you've got a wedding to plan?"
"Because, we were all your friends. You were a part of our lives," he replies. "Plus, I know Kita likes you and I doubt he thinks you're weird."
"I know, I just feel... conflicted," you sigh. "And I'm not sure I'm ready to face everyone again. Not yet."
"That's okay," Atsumu says, nodding, before adding one final comment.
Before either of you can say any more, the chime of the door signals the arrival of a new customer, and ends the quiet moment of your exchange. You rise to your feet, a mix of emotions swirling within you as you gather your composure. "It was good seeing you," you murmur, the words a soft yet genuine acknowledgment of the unexpected connection that had begun to form between the two of you after all these years.
