Ch 18: What's unknown

Stella finally walked into the bunks and saw Kilo sitting on his bed looking through his laptop. 

"Hey stranger. You look busy."

"Hey you! You're back. How'd the meeting go?"

"Now that's what you need to know. Turns out we got a lead on where to start. It's gonna be a day long getting there."

"Wow, that's great news! What do you need us to do?"

"We're gonna need to out there and check the crime scene out."

"So where are we going?"

"The place that was in the report. You know project 'X'."

"Damn so we're going to ground zero?"

"Yeah."

"That doesn't sound safe."

"If not us then who? This is really the only way."

"You think the others will agree to this?"

"Kilo I'm about to find out. Where are the others anyways?"

"They're on their way. Everybody getting their stuff to knock out."

"Hey Kilo, I wanted to tell you something before anything could happen.."

"Yeah?"

As Stella was about to speak the rest of the other team members walk into the room as they talked amongst each other. Then they noticed Stella finally returned from her meeting. 

"Stella! so glad you can join us, did everything go well?" exclaimed Jade

"Everything went normally. Had to explain a lot of what was going on. They were looking into where we should go first. Hence why I took so long."

"That's fine honey. Does everybody know why we are here?" As Jade turned towards the rest. 

In unison everybody agreed and exclaimed yes. Then Nicky explained that their entire squad had a debriefing when they were assigned to come here. But surprisingly everyone agreed to the dangerous mission and all were actually intrigued by the mysterious beast. However the dreadful thought would creep up on Stella's mind. I don't think anyone in here knows what we have to face out there-really. 

Then R.J interrupts Stella's thoughts, "Well guys if we really have a day to get there. Might as well pack our essentials. Work awaits us tomorrow morning."

Everyone agreed and scurried off to their bunks and started making their utility bags. Scott packed some medical equipment and a first aid kit. While the sibilings we stuffing tools and some spare parts. Then R.J packed his bag as he layed out some of his dynamite on his bed just looking to see which one would 'fit' the occasion. Luis looked around and packed some snacks he collected from the mess hall and then some fishing equipment. Jade was lost. 

"Hey Missy. Gonna get what you need?"

"Well Luis, I'm not sure how much help I can be. I think I should stay behind I wouldn't want to get in the way."

"No Jade. That's nonsense. Don't feel bad all these kids around us have the energy for this. But, while they run around we are excused to take our time. Besides it's fun traveling with you."

Jade couldn't help get red from Luis's sincere compliment. Then she looked around and noticed that everyone packed tools but no one packed blankets. So she followed her intuition. 

Stella yawned and motioned Kilo that she was going to sleep. As she stretched in her bed and briefly looked around to see people busy as some lamps were turning off and some were still on. Then the exhaustion creeps up on her and everything goes dark.
