The roar of the nocturnal waves filled the breezy night as she staggered through the heavy sand fighting to escape. One of the officers approaching the beach with a flashlight noticed some fresh marks in the wet sand. The Officer quickly pulled out his radio and channeled in the Sargent.
"Sarg? Come in-I see some fresh marks in the beach"
"Good- send out the dogs. Over"
" yes sir-over"Not far in the beach under a rotting tree trunk there Stella was digging frantically as her hands swam through the sand then suddenly the texture immediately changed into cold tin metal. She found it- her secret box, she quickly opened it taking everything inside. Some USB's, family photos, maps and some letter that she quickly stuffed them in her bag. Stella knew that she needed to plan on making a long trip. Suddenly, the quiet night was interrupted by the howls of some search dogs. Seeing the flashing lights from the officers running behind the wild dogs; Stella ran in direction to town. The chase grew more intense and now more people knew that she was trying to escape through the sleepy town. Turning every corner- she reached one of her familiar alley ways and hurried onto a trash bin hoisting herself up on a window ledge so she could slip on the roof. You can't catch someone out of reach. The howls and echoing threats from the dogs were now loud and clear. Laying flat on the roof now Stella caught her breath and she could hear the wild mutts beg to have a piece of her as they trampled each other below.
After taking a breath she took flight and continued running away on the rooftops. As she looked towards her possible exit the sounds of police grew, everyone was now watching this girl glide through the rooftops. With each steady step after another she hopped from rooftop to rooftop and each jump feeling further. On one of the jumps Stella briefly looked down and already felt dizzy. But she knew it was not the time to be scared. As she ran further past one of the older tall buildings, Stella saw the docks not too far from where she was.
She just needed to jump one more time...
Letting out a warrior's cry she galloped with her strength until she flew. At this brief moment she felt almost as free as the nearby osprey. Her heartbeat pounding in her ears as she observe the height she glided in. The world felt quiet in that split second.
After the wave of serenity the whole experience was abruptly short-lived with a crash landing. Stella rolled and scraped herself on the roof. As she examine her arms and legs; an overwhelming feeling of joy rushed over in realization that she succeeded that dangerous jump.
"YES!" Stella jumped up in celebration... then BOOM-CRASH the roof caved in, swallowing up Stella from where she stood. As she moved the debris that surrounded her, she immediately realized that she landed in a dentist office.
"damn, now is the worst time for a check up."
(outside ) "surround the building she's in there!"
As Stella desperately runs through the clinic looking for a way to either escape or hide. What looked like the swat team kick down the door with guns blazing. Stella threw herself over the check in desk and dragged herself under the desk.. All just in time as a rainfall of bullets took over the room .Covering her ears and taking cover under that desk is all that Stella could do.
"STOP SHOOTING YOU IDIOTS!! SHE CANNOT DIE!!" the Sargent hollered
The men awkwardly stopped firing and looked among-st each other in confusion. Seeing how everything quiet down as quickly as it got crazy Stella slowly stood up with her hands up high, shaking like a wet cat.
"please don't shoot." Stella whimpered
"Stella Skylar you have the rights to remain silent. Anything you say or do will be used against you in a court of law."the Sargent muttered
"I figured." Stella interrupted
One of the armed men approached Stella and cuffed her, then holding her by the arm took her away in the patrol car.
11:59:41 PM [west coast police station]
I would say that I was terrified but that's a given. But I am mostly mad at myself for getting into the situation. I would never say it out load but Chen isn't really scary he is just inpatient; his boss hounding him on the phone-I mean who wouldn't. But working with BP's suppliers just go against what I believe in. They disrupt fishing ground and killed lots of jobs which ultimately forced people into working with them. Which is just as unsafe. But now I am sitting in the backseat of a cop's car like a criminal- I wish I had a plan.
The patrol car finally arrived in the station, I then was escorted inside and seated. The officer in the computer was exhausted and annoyed. He gets any info he can get and types away, as I try to get somewhat comfortable in my seat my night just got worst. I see Chen walking into the station with an older man in a long trench coat. Chen points in my direction and talks to the older man. The older man say some things to the officer by the desk and both shake hands and smile. The older man now approached me.
"Good Evening, Young lady." The older man with his fingers combs his sliver hair out of his face."I've been told lots about you and its finally an honor to meet you personally"
"Well sir, I don't know if I feel the same way about you."
The older man chuckled at Stella's remark, "you're definitely a fiery one. And no-I doubt you would feel the same way but my employee told me you were not easy to persuade. But I am not here tonight to conduct business with you- I am here to ask for help."
"Help? why would I help you if I barely know you. I can imagine you own B.W.E.N corp that has been damaging the town's marine ecosystem for the longest now."
"Ah yes, my apologies my name is Chuck Bwen and this company has been in my family for years now. Also about your local ecosystem I'm sorry but frankly I had no idea."
Stella was now processing this entire ordeal and searched for the right words. Then Chuck interrupted her thoughts.
"As for the charges I am willing to drop them and as for the minor damages on the way here I am willing to cover."
All the other officers were quietly listening to entire interaction and watched the old man pull out his check book. The Sargent seeing this quickly stepped forward.
"Sir, there is no need to cover for the property damage we are aware that the clinic was insured and as for your request on the charges- are you sure?"
"Yes, son! I don't want any more animosity between me and Ms. Skylir."
"Okay sir, She's ready to leave." The Sargent quickly uncuffed Stella and released her. As Stella walks outside, Mr. Bwen quickly walks beside her.
"come with me Stella and I will show you the problem- if you still refuse to help I will leave you alone."
Stella stood there hesitant as she observed Mr. Bwen open the car door for Stella. But then it crossed her mind, for the owner of an oil company to go through the trouble in finding her himself just for some help must be very serious. So she nodded and went inside the car.
Chen's face now changed as he saw his boss in the backseat along side the girl that almost costed his job. Chen now looked powerless.
"Stella, you made the right choice."
"Don't celebrate too quickly Chuck I have to see if its worth the effort."
"Oh, it will be."
The city was starting to fall further and further behind them. The scent of the sea grew stronger and stronger, she was still home but she felt far from it.
Everything was happening too fast.
