Chapter 2:
Stuck in the middle of a
Frozen Battlefield.

Loki watched as Laufey stepped forward, being taller than the other frost giants he almost towered over her, a thing that made Loki uncomfortable, as he answered her, keeping his eyes on the Asgardian group. "They came here claiming to seek answers, but only wanted war," Laufey answered, his voice cold as he glared at Thor, "they attacked us, so we retaliated."

Thor was fighting against the enchanted ice, which only seemed to make it grow faster, trapping him more. Watching him fight against its hold was like watching a fool fighting against quicksand, not that Loki was fully paying attention to him, it was more something he caught in his peripheral vision. His main focus was on this unknown lady and Laufey.

The woman turned to Thor as if to ask him a question, but by the look on her face, Loki could guess that she quickly realized there would be no point. Thor was at this point just screaming and roaring like a wild animal, fighting against the magical ice and trying to call Mjølnir back to his side, or perhaps just seeing if his hands could reach far enough as to strangle the nearest Jotun, it was hard to tell which one was his goal.

The lady rolled her eyes, clearly not amused with the noise as she waved her hand toward Thor. The mist that flew from her hand reminded Loki of the mist he would have expected to see some out of her mouth, and it matched the mist coming out of his brother as he kept roaring. It hit his brother's face, mixing in with the mist he made to quickly create a muzzle made of enchanted ice around his mouth, silencing his screaming howl, but did in no way lessen his rage.

If the situation had not been so tense, Loki would have been laughing uncontrollably and maybe thanked the woman for finally silencing his silly brother. But this was not the time for laughing, this still very much felt like a fight for survival.

The woman turned to Loki, for a moment once again stunning him as she looked into his eyes, and made him almost miss her question. "... Is what he says true?"

Loki quickly composed himself, still shaken, but knowing he needed to focus if he was to have any chance of getting them all out of this alive. She was a frost giant, surely he could not find her attractive. But it was clear she spoke with authority, so this might be his second chance to end this peacefully.

"We did come seeking answers," he said honestly, looking her in the eyes, trying hard to not let himself get mesmerized again. "We do not wish to fight," he said, but noticing the tightening of her eyes he knew that he had to correct himself, "I do not wish to fight. My brother made a mistake in attacking, and as a result, a fight broke out. Now we are only trying to defend ourselves."

There was an eerie silence as Loki looked into her eyes, not daring to break eye contact, as she was judging whether to believe his words. Her face was guarded, clearly trying not to give away any emotions that would indicate where her thoughts were or where they might be headed, but Loki did notice how her eyebrows had lifted slightly when he had corrected himself, giving the indication she was surprised about him changing his words to both be more honest and essentially distancing himself from his brothers desires and actions.

He could also tell she believed him. Her eyes seemed slightly more open as she looked at him, a sign of trust. It was not a deep trust, but it was more than Loki thought he would have deserved in a situation like this. He was after all known as the prince of mischief and lies, and he had been fighting and even killing some of her comrades. He should not be trusted... And yet she was giving him the benefit of the doubt, a thing he had not been granted by his own people for a while now.

"What answers did you seek?" She finally asked but was still looking deep into Loki's eyes, making him feel like she was looking at his very soul, and he faltered. No one had ever looked at him like that before, with such an intense gaze. He took a moment and a deep breath to steady himself before he answered. "Some of your people broke into our treasury, we wanted to know how and why."
